Don't think twice... just buy it! The tips are awesome and they work. You'll see immediate results. One of the strengths of this book is that for each situation, the authors step back and put the reader in the childs shoes and then offers a number of solutions. I now have an arsenal of ways of handling the kids in a loving, yet firm fashion!

Have you ever wished that your child came with an instruction book? Perfect Parenting: The Dictionary of 1,000 Parenting Tips might be just what you have been looking for! This book consists of suggestions on how to deal with all those situations that are sent to try your patience and all those issues which no-one seems to know how to handle. This book's format is perfect for the busy parent. In alphabetical order and cross-referenced, you will find suggestions on how to cope with everything from allowances to yelling and screaming. Examples include: bath, not wanting one; nightmares; siblings, jealousy; and the ever-worrying TANTRUMS. For each problem, the situation is described and then parents are challenged to "think about it" before being given several possible solutions. The suggestions offered are wonderfully helpful and insightful. There is a wealth of fantastic advice here! As always, Elizabeth Pantley manages to give advice that WORKS, is EASY, and is RESPECTFUL of children. Whether you are a new parent or an old hand, you are bound to benefit from her words of wisdom. What is particularly perfect about Perfect Parenting is that it is a "one-stop-shop" for a whole gamut of problems, many of which are simply not broached in any other book. In the one book, almost every conceivable parental concern is covered. This is a book which you definitely want to keep in a prominent position on the bookshelf, as you are going to want to refer to it again and again!

"Perfect Parenting" is a very handy parenting guide. The book is unique in that it covers each parenting dilemma with not one, but several (and sometimes many), possible solutions. This enables parents to gear solutions to their own parenting style. I found this to be an extremely useful and clever feature. The book is written in dictionary-style. It's most useful as a resource guide sitting on the shelf patiently awaiting the next parenting conundrum. I like this format because I hate sitting down and just reading a parenting book. By the time an actual problem arises I've forgotten everything I've read. I would rather use parenting books on an as-needed basis rather than reading them from cover-to-cover. "Perfect Parenting" fits this bill "perfectly." I gave the book the acid test and used it immediately on some of my own parenting situations. We had the little matter of siblings disrespecting each other on a daily--hourly?--basis and I found some helpful hints under "Siblings, hateful emotions" (no, I'm not making this category up--kinda scary, but it fit my situation). This little exercise did, however, point out one of the book's shortcomings regarding basic organization. The book has no index (one of my personal literary pet peeves) which makes it more difficult to find information. The book does have a comprehensive index-like table of contents, but in my opinion it does not replace the need for a true index. But don't let this small quibble discourage you from this book. Overall, the book is excellent and I have turned to it many times. BOTTOM LINE: It's a buy. Keep it handy for all those challenging parenting moments when your brain can't work fast enough!

Elizabeth sent me this book so that I could review it for her and what a fabulous book it is. This is a really easy to use book, you don't have to read cover to cover to get your info. The format is in an easy topic look-up style and I refer to it often with my own four children! This book has 319 pages and not one page is what I would consider a waste of space or "filler". The parenting tips are written from common sense no-nonsense thinking and I can endorse this book. The foreward was written by North America's very own William Sears, M.D.

Got a problem? Get an answer!,

This review is from: Perfect Parenting: The Dictionary of 1,000 Parenting Tips (Paperback)
This is an amazing book with multiple solutions for every imaginable child-raising problem. I find the solutions to be one step ahead of the standard, typical advice -- which often doesn't work! For example, in the section on picky eaters you won't find the usual advice to "just make them eat what's on their plate" (Those experts obviously don't have kids like mine!) Instead this author gives REAL solutions like: "Allow your child the option to have toast or cereal for dinner ONE day a week. When he knows he can skip one meal he'll make a decision to eat things that aren't favorites and save his 'cereal day' for the day you're having the food he likes least." That worked like a charm in our house of five kids! No more nightly dinner battles! Just one kid sitting with a bowl of cereal LOL This book covers the typical problems perfectly, but also covers unique problems with flair. I use it almost every day for quick tips.

Excellent A to Z format for all the typical issues you face with your kids. Not just one solution for each problem, but many choices! Covers the standard stuff like chores and fighting, but then goes beyond to give solutions for other things too like getting a kid to wear his glasses, eat his vegetables, behave at his birthday party, stop playing doctor with the neighbor's little girl, stop potty jokes, and quit dawdling. Just an example of the many interesting topics covered.

This is a book that I frequently pull out anytime a situation comes up with my children that I just don't know the answer to. Just about any problem, scenario or action that you can ever go through with a child is addressed in this book. The best part? Finding that there is always more than one way to deal with anything and realizing that there may be more than one right way to handle yourself.I have recommended this book to my readers many many times and will many times more.

Great advice for issues that may arise in your family,
This review is from: Perfect Parenting: The Dictionary of 1,000 Parenting Tips (Paperback)
First, the book has 9 parenting keys which is essential to every family. Then the book gives a variety of situations/issues that may occur with your child or children. For each situation or issue, there is a "Think About It" section and possible solutions for that situation. You can use your own solutions that work for your family also. Some examples are Allowances, Bedtime, Homework and Siblings. The book is packed with excellent ideas, options, & methods that can be very helpful when you have run out of ideas/solutions of your own.

This is a wonderful and extremely helpful book for looking up quick and informative answers to questions about helping as well as discliplining children. It is alphabetical, so you can look up "Bedtime, getting to bed peacefully" and it offers three great, sane, and loving ideas. The next section is: "Bedtime, staying in bed" so that it is very easy to follow and you can look up almost anything you can think of such as: "not coming when called" and it will say to look up: "Cooperate, doesn't;or Listening, not". It has helped me tremendously, especially when it is often hard to get a quick, concise answer out of other parenting books when you REALLY need it right away, as the problem is occurring. |
