This review is from: The Slasher Killings: A Canadian Sex-Crime Panic, 1945-1946 (Paperback)
Well written, well researched, blow by blow account of the "Slasher" scare the riveted the west end of Windsor in the mid '40s. The author even managed to dig up and publish some crime scene photos from the investigation. I think he overdid it though with the "homophobia" element of the story. Some older Windsorites I've talked to recall the Slasher, but weren't even aware of the homosexual element, yet the book reads like Windsor was on a witch-hunt for gays. The truth is in the middle somewhere, I'm sure. Pick it up! It'll be a long time before we come across another local true crime book of this caliber.
