I've been wanting a digital SLR camera for a while and finally bought myself one as a gift. Obviously, I wanted to learn how to be a better photographer with my new toy, so I ordered a couple of books to learn more. Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure is the best I read by far. It is exactly what I wanted and needed: a clearly-written, concise and beautifully imaged book that taught me how to use my potential as a photographer. Now, I shoot only in Manual mode and know how to deliver perfect exposures everytime. If you're like me and want to go from point-and-shoot to dSLR and learn how to take advantage of what your camera can do for you, this is the book to get.

For the amateur photographer there is no better inspiration than knowing that the questions you have are at your fingertips along with a plethora of creative ideas and that's what this book provides. Highly recommended as both a motivational tool to go out and shoot as well as a good reference. And remember, the best exposure is the correct exposure!

This has to be one of the best books I have read and I would highly recommend it for any new photographer who wants to understand the entire process of picture taking. This book explains in easy to understand terms what your camera is doing the moment you press the shutter button as well as how to adjust your camera settings for better pictures.

This is a great book written uncomplicated terms. The photos and illustrations combined with the comfortable text was almost like having a personal instructor. I know I will use it as a reference book again and again. Some of the concepts just stick in your mind.

The best book on the subject, by far, for beginners and intermediates. Good coverage, well written. Opens horizons, makes photography fun, as it should be. I had the 1st edition, then bought two copies of the 3rd edition. One I'll keep, for re-reading every 6 months or so. The second copy I'm first passing through my photographer friends (they will likely buy their own), and then donate it to my local little library. The world will become a better place :).

I would like to know what is the difference if any between the 1st edition and 3rd edition. I find the book info on the site very limited to know if the titles are the same.
