5.0 out of 5 stars Her ideas are classic, yet fresh

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures, but hard to follow!
As with her other books, Maria McBride-Mellinger has put together a series of charming and beautiful photos to draw ideas from. There is a lot of inspiration in this book, but little practical help. 5.0 out of 5 stars Her ideas are classic, yet fresh, Sep 4 2003
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
As a professional bridal consultant, I keep an extensive library of wedding related books on hand to help my brides design their own weddings. Ms. McBride's Bridal Flowers is one of my favorites. It is full of wonderful ideas - not just the traditional "must have" wedding flowers such as bouquets & boutonnieres, but the out-of-the-ordinary (but inspiring) boas, decorated lampposts & gilded calla lilies. Ms. McBride shows that flowers are for more than just being carried or worn. The large color photos are fantastic. So many other books have little or no photos, or hand drawn diagrams that leaves the reader wondering. Ms. McBride's book lets you see exactly what she is talking about. It doesn't claim to be a how-to book, but perfect to take along when visiting your floral designer.

2.0 out of 5 stars good decorating ideas, but no bouquet ideas, Sep 1 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
This book was not very helpful to me. It had some good ideas for decorating, but what I was wanting was a book to give me ideas for different brides maids and bridal bouquets. It did not give any ideas as far as different flowers for different arrangements. It is a good book if all you are looking for is a book to give you decorating ideas. Not different flower ideas.

Ms. McBride's style goes unsurpassed both in her presentation and the way her creative ideas together with an excellent photographer unfold. Move over Martha is what I have to say about this little gem. She is right on and I reccommend this book for anyone planning a wedding. Dont miss it. Nancy Cohn wedding photographer

4.0 out of 5 stars I use this in my bridal consultations all the time!, April 8 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
This book offers the bride history behind customs along with fabulous photographs. I always let my brides peruse this book looking for new ideas. One bride absolutely adored the boa of astilbe and roses. It was perfect for her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures, but hard to follow!, Jan 25 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
As with her other books, Maria McBride-Mellinger has put together a series of charming and beautiful photos to draw ideas from. There is a lot of inspiration in this book, but little practical help. She often mentions techniques and flowers (especially flowers) that are unusual and are not showcased in her pictures. And not only are there no pictures, but the reader doesn't even get a clue as to what shape, color or size the flower is. The most noticible feature of this book, is the awful typesetting job that was done. Sentences get split between pages, and sections start at the end of a page. This isn't a problem in most books - however, in this book, there are 1-3 pages of pictures between almost every page. So you start to read a new section, have to flip through 2 pages of photos to finish the sentence, and then flip back to admire the flowers. With just a little foresight, this book could have been more neatly split up (none of the sections are that long), and it would have made for a much more enjoyable reading experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars No how-to's, but lots of wonderful arrangment ideas!, July 17 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
I just bought this book, I love the arrangements. It contains pages of sophisticated and classic arrangements. There are some very elegant ideas for wedding decorations too. I'm using at least three ideas from here for my niece's bridal shower, and plan to use it as reference for the wedding. NO HOW-TO's though... would have been nice. This is definately a book you buy for the pictures, but not to learn floral arranging.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but somewhat outdated, July 7 1998
By
This review is from: Bridal Flowers: Arrangements for a Perfect Wedding (Hardcover)
I bought Ms. Mellinger's book on The Perfect Wedding also, and totally adored it. While the pictures in this book are as beautiful as those in her other book, it seemed to me that they were not as "90's". I bought this book specifically for flower arrangement ideas, but I ended up marking off most of my idea pictures from her other book. Still, it is comprehensive, and covers flowers for the ceremony, reception, and for the wedding party. A good deal for the price
