Invaluable decoder of the Old Testament, Jan 17 2011
This review is from: The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament (Paperback)
I've always appreciated that we are a number of steps removed from the culture of the Old Testament; that we're, in effect, looking over the shoulder of the Israelites, reading what they're reading.
However, it was only after opening this book that I realized how much thematically we are missing by de-contextualizing the Old Testament. I also was amazed at how...well, not "simple", but simpler it is to understand the grand themes of the OT when we put the correct lenses on. And Sandra is the perfect optometrist for this task. Beautifully balancing readability with information; facts with spiritual application,Richter opens up the OT themes and threads like nothing I've ever read before.
I preached on the Ancients' view of the cosmos on Sunday and I was so fortunate to have been reading this book at this time. This book is worth it's price alone for her demystifying of covenant theology which has led me to view my Redeemer God in a way I've never seen Him before.

This book helped to make O.T. accessible for me, Jan 25 2012
This review is from: The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament (Paperback)
We were assigned this book as a required text in seminary. None of us thought it would be such enjoyable reading.
The easy language, brilliant story telling all made this book accessible not just for serious seminary students but also lay persons.
