5.0 out of 5 stars Just Loved the Book!
My book club picked this novel because we thought the description of the title character was unusual. We read a lot of mysteries and thrillers. The book really lived up to expectations. I loved that it was a fast read, but I also found the characters very compelling. The book was clever and unusual, something we don't see all that much. We were all totally surprised by...

I should have seen a red flag when I noticed that one of the positive reviews on the back of the book came from her very own husband!

All-in-all, this book was completely average. There was nothing that stood out about it. The writing wasn't that exciting, and the author introduces so many characters that I had trouble keeping them all straight. I didn't feel any of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, July 2 2004

This review is from: Body Parts (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book in on a trip to Las Vegas. I'd never heard of the author, but I loved this book. It's a fast, exciting read, plus I loved the main character, Tally. She's a homicide counselor - a profession I had never heard of. I liked all the characters, including Penny, the Canine Corps dog. And the plot was excellent. I hope there's another Tally mystery coming! Great job!

What can I say? I loved this book! The characters--gotta love that Tally!--are so well-developed that I probably will find myself looking for them next time I'm in Boston. Great plot that kept me up at night. I kept telling myself, just one more chapter... Dynamic writing, real-life dialogue, a colorful cast of characters, and plot twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end are just a few of the reasons I've put the next Stiefel book on my "must buy" list.

Bleh.

I bought the book at random in the super market. The characters became personal from the beginnng. You care about them; and the descriptions of Boston make me want to go there! I can't wait for Tally, wonderful Penny, Jake, bubblegum Gert and the rest in their next adventure. Soon, I hope, Vicki!!!

I bought this book randomly having never heard of Vicki Stiefel. I simply liked the description and from the first page I could tell I was going to like "Body Parts".

For me, a great book has certain key elements:

1. Contiuous action/dialogue (I hate authors that describe every scene/person in overly minute detail)
2. Interesting characters with whitty & casual dialogue
3. A solid plot
4. A twist for an ending

This book has every one of those things. Just when you think you have this one figured out, you find you don't!...

I can't wait for the next book by Vicki and look forward to seeing more of Tally and her gang. If you like mystery and thrillers...grab this one! You won't be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compassion and horror, Mar 16 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Parts (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to admit I don't often read horror, but Tally Whyte is a compassionate, exuberant, and human protagonist who can take you through the pages and make you wait for the next book. I loved learning about the gritty world of a homicide grief counselor and I think it's one of the more unique professions I've come across in a mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet a great cast of characters...., Mar 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Parts (Mass Market Paperback)
Counselors at the Grief Shop; Penny, Tally's three-legged German shepherd from the Canine Corps; Jake, Tally's landlord; Mrs. Cheadle with her tales of her vaudeville days; and, of course, Tally Whyte are some of the memorable characters who live and die in this book. They and a riveting plot make for a great read!!

Loved the book, couldn't put it down. I loved the references to places in Boston that I remember well. It reminded me some of Robin Cook's books, which I love. Amazing ending.

Body Parts was a gripping read! Once I began I couldn't put it down. The heroine Tally Whyte was a compelling and real character who kept me engrossed the entire story. I give Stiefel a strong thumbs up on this first effort and look forward to more of Tally's adventures in future writings.
