Once and for all...,

This review is from: THE BECK DIET SOLUTION: TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO THINK LIKE A THIN PERSON (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books I have ever read on dieting - and I`ve read a lot of them! I've tried many diets and I've not been able to stick to them. My problem has always been the inability to follow through on the diets and exercise plans. Now this book finally addresses the problems I've experienced. It talks about the psychological aspect of dieting. It suggests precise steps to take to overcome the psychological blocks. It helps the reader rebuke his own inner doubt. By reading this book I gained self-respect and self-awareness. Out of the whole plethora of diet books the only other title that I also highly recommend is "Can we Live 150 Years?" Again, this is less of a dieting book and more of healthy-life-style in general, and the author does not focus on dieting at all. But the results will surprise you. The chapter on Obesity is probably the best one ever written on this topic. These two books ("The Beck Diet Solution" and "Can We Live 150") will cure your overweight problem once and for all.

Inside the Mind of the Thin,

This review is from: THE BECK DIET SOLUTION: TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO THINK LIKE A THIN PERSON (Hardcover)
This book uses cognitive psychology to help you lose weight. Cognitive psychology is based on the concept that the way you think affects how you feel and what you do. Cognitive therapy, then, helps you identify your self-defeating thinking and helps you respond to it so you can feel better and behave in helpful ways. Instead of leading you step-by-step through a diet plan, this book addresses the psychology behind why you can't get yourself to follow one and lose weight. In this book, you pick the diet (and an alternative as a back up), and the book helps you follow it.The set-up of the book is a six-week plan. Week 1 is laying the groundwork, where you pick 2 diets. Week 2 is getting prepared to diet, Week 3 is starting the diet, Week 4 looks into responding to sabotaging thoughts, Week 5 is about overcoming challenges, such as staying in control when you go out to eat, and Week 6 is fine tuning things. All-in-all, I'd have to say that its a great resource to address the psycholgical side of eating. There's no magic to it, just a little looking inside yourself and addressing any barriers you have that may be holding you back. Readers may also enjoy The Sixty-Second Motivator to address motivation issues as well.

It works!,

This review is from: THE BECK DIET SOLUTION: TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO THINK LIKE A THIN PERSON (Hardcover)
This is a self-help cognitive-behavioral therapy book for obesity. I appreciated the degree of practice experiments and repetition, although I was selective in creating weight-loss cards for the ideas that resonated with me (eg., "In order to lose weight, I accept the fact that I must plan and control what I eat. Spontaneous eating is just not for me!", or "Food is wasted, whether it goes in the garbage or into a body that doesn't need it/can't tolerate it.") Using this book, and with the help of a medically supervised weight-loss program, I was able to lose and maintain a 70-lb weight loss for over a year. Without this book, I don't know if I could have accepted the lifestyle changes that are needed.I would recommend combining this book with either the South Beach Diet (just remember "Stop fooling yourself! Portion sizes always matter. Some hunger is expected when losing weight, and HUNGER IS NEVER AN EMERGENCY!")--or, if you can--the Dr.Bernstein Diet--and this book will help you stick to it to lose weight most efficiently. Believe me, there is a lot more to weight loss and maintenance than just calorie counting!

Best Diet Book EVER!,

This review is from: BECK DIET SOLUTION : TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO THINK LIKE A THIN PERSON (Paperback)
This is the best diet book I have ever read. It focuses heavily on keeping you on track and honest. The techniques used in this book are scientific and proven. The book makes results very easy to attain and sustain. The program prescribed gives you the tools to combat cravings, sabotaging thoughts, and ultimately overeating. I am halfway through this book and have nothing but good things to say about it. If you are overweight, overeat, constantly dieting, etc.. Then you need to read this book! It will surely help you in your endeavors regarding weight loss and eating disorder.NOTE: This is NOT DIET! It is a book with techniques to change how you perceive eating. If you are looking for a book that prescribes a diet, then look elsewhere. However, if you are serious about going on any diet, you should read this book along with it. Cheers, Cam.

A wonderful tool for anyone attempting a diet,
This review is from: THE BECK DIET SOLUTION: TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO THINK LIKE A THIN PERSON (Hardcover)
A really unique guidebook using the proven techniques of cognitive behaviour therapy. I loved the exercises Dr. Beck gives you to do to prepare you to "answer back" the sabotaging thoughts that every dieter faces on a daily basis. If we are able to effectively answer to those unhelpful thoughts, permanent weight loss is possible. The exercises in this book make overcoming those daily temptations a reality. The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person
