Not worth the time,

This review is from: Creating Fashion Dolls: A Step-By-Step Guide to Face Repainting (Paperback)
I bought this book with the expectation of seeing examples from a experienced doll artist. I felt her painting was elementary and not artistic. I expected a more professional and pulled together product from someone writing a how to book. Stick to Jim Faraone's book or get on the internet and look up doll customizers and repaints. The overall information was good but her painting style is sloppy.

Basic How To Book - disappointing,

This book is for the beginner who has less than no idea where to start. It does have basic how-to info but I found the examples and dolls in the book very disappointing. I feel like even though I have never done a fashion doll repaint I can do at least as good a job as the author did if not better. I was expecting a lot more and if I had paid full price for this book I would have returned it. (I bought a used one) I don't want to be mean but the nose holes on one doll looked like boogers and the Julia Roberts repaint doll's lips were disturbing. If you want just the basics on how to get started then buy the book, if you expect more then don't.

If you can't draw a circle, then you might want this. For the rest of us, I found the pictures of artwork done by the author a joke. They look like a child painted ALL of them except the one on the front cover which must have taken her years to perfect. She had a few tips that were helpful but I'd go to the bookstore and write it down before I would buy this.

Ever since I received the first book from this author, I could not wait to receive the second. I preordered it in a heartbeat and just finished it last night. Let me tell you if I hadnt been so tired I would have typed this review up then. I never regretted for a moment, the money I spent on these two books. They are timeless and an invaluable part of my craft library. The language, just like the first is gentle and user friendly. She is the only author of this sort that takes you step by step through the process as if she's holding your hand through the project. It's funny, because I was always intimidated when I thought about doing a repaint on Gene but now I'm actually looking forward to starting my first one! I better end this now so that I can go buy the doll! Thank you Sabrina - cant wait to see what you'll have for us next!

A good place to start,

I bought both the authors books, and as a newbie to doll makeovers have found them very helpful. I found the author's writing style a bit distracting (a bit wordy, with a tendency to overuse adjectives). As the book's purpose is informational not literary, this is a small criticism, and easily overlooked especially as there are no other books like it on the market. Unlike the few other books on the subject, this is the only author who takes the beginner stey by step through the process.
