5.0 out of 5 stars Well, I love this book
The reviews here are all pretty much one way or another. Most readers seem to like Science and Health, while many others have some strong negative comments/reviews. It should be addressed here, however, that many reviews are about the Christian Science Church rather than the book itself.

The reviews here are all pretty much one way or another. Most readers seem to like Science and Health, while many others have some strong negative comments/reviews. It should be addressed here, however, that many reviews are about the Christian Science Church rather than the book itself.

Some individuals have had negative experiences with the Church/religion, and their experiences are completely valid. I am not about to defend the shortcomings of a human institution in this space. I do feel the need, however, to distinguish between a religion and its book. People, for example, may have had problems with the Catholic faith in their life, but that's no reason to start bashing the Bible or giving it a one star rating.

What few seem to discuss here is the book's central thesis, that God exists and that His divine laws should be directly applicable to us in our daily lives. I personally happen to agree with this statement, but I can also understand why some out there would disagree. Maybe they don't believe in God, or don't believe in Jesus' teachings. Maybe they don't think that God can affect their daily lives.

There are 100 pages of testimonials of people who were healed of various ailments from reading this book. Will your life be permanently changed by reading this book? It could. At the very least, you will read a book that makes you think about your personal relationship with God. For me, that's something that is without price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Guide!!!!!, Feb 5 2004

This review is from: Science and Health: With Key to the Scriptures (Paperback)
I found this book to be a great compliment to my own Faith as a Roman Catholic. I was skeptical at first, but soon realized that what Mrs. Eddy was teaching was already latent in me. As many of the testimonials attributed, it was a particular incident in my life, which led a friend to recommend the book. Amazingly, I found answers to my problem very early on in my reading, and continued for the sake of learning more. I now understand fully the concept of Christian Science, and continue to practice it with the hope of helping others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for Life!, Jan 19 2004

This review is from: Science and Health: With Key to the Scriptures (Paperback)
What a wonderful resource for living this is. I have studied CS all my life, more recently than previously, and have benefited more than words can say. I love CS with my whole heart, try to live it to my best ability and love learning more about Life, Love and how God controls and holds his children in his heart. As sunbeams radiate out from the sun, we cannot ever be seperated from God and Love and what a wonderful knowing this is! I have been healed of flu, effects of a car accident, grief, burns, misunderstood relationships, female problems, eye problems and morality issues. I am so grateful for this book and share it whenever possible :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you feel like you think differently than everyone else, Aug 18 2003

or if you wonder if this is all there is, well, this book will answer your questions--and more. Many have read this book and found it articulates how they've always felt, and helps them come to terms with themselves. It is not an easy read, but radical ideas are seldom easy to articulate or grasp.
Many reviews have spoken about children and parents dying. This also happens in the medical profession, but people seem to expect perfection from this healing method while not expecting it from medicine. In July, 2003, the Rand Corporation published a study that said the medical profession was making mistakes in diagnosis and treatment about 50% of the time. While the study didn't get much publicity, it certainly makes me want to have more control over my own health care than a 50-50 proposition (Las Vegas offers no games with those odds! There's a reason.)
If you want more out of life, if you're searching for answers about God or your own existence, if the consumer mentality leaves you feeling empty, then read this book. It's ideas will expand your horizons, reveal new meaning, and help you fill those empty places.

5.0 out of 5 stars A POSTITIVE BOOK FOR POSITIVE HEALTH, Feb 29 2004

This review is from: Science and Health: With Key to the Scriptures (Paperback)
I find this book very positive and encouraging for a person to read often to get a positive outlook on life. The author encourages a person not to worry too much about problems in life and wants a less materialistic and more spiritual daily living.
By doing this a person is better able to stay healthy not fearful of getting sick but knowing that our GOD wants us to be healthy, helpful, cheerful, successful and being there for others. The writer encourages daily Bible reading alongside this book and it seems to me to be a good recipe for a good godly life. In the back of the book is about one hundred pages called fruitage which is testimonial of persons healed by reading this book. stephen segall segalls@aol.com

5.0 out of 5 stars If you've ever felt like something is missing in your life,, Aug 24 2003

This review is from: Science and Health: With Key to the Scriptures (Paperback)
or wondered if this is all there is, or why you just don't seem to fit in, this book will give you answers.
The preface says, "The time for thinkers is come." And indeed, the author challenges human belief systems on every page. "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," is one of her main points, and the entire book works with showing just exactly why this is true. ( Isn't it interesting that a woman living at the turn of last century stated this fact, showed how you can realize its truth, and that now physics is showing that, indeed, what we call substance isn't so substantial after all, and that everything is made of energy. And exactly what energy is, is in a state of flux.)
This book has done more for me and my family than any other book except the Bible. I read it daily. My great grandmother was healed of an advanced case of diagnosed tuberculosis and given 2 weeks to live by the doctors. She went on to marry and live in a harsh climate as a rancher's wife. One of her sons was healed of typhoid fever while in WWII. The doctors had given him up. Our daughter was protected in a roll over accident that was so bad the police officer called it a "fatal accident with no casualties." (When the car involved was towed to the owner's home, all the neighbors assumed the owner was dead.) A cousin was healed of the effects of drinking a bottle of lye when she was three years old. They lived several miles from town, so the only help available was prayer. The entire family saw my grandmother cary her sensless from the room and to a neighbor's house, who practiced the healing taught in this book. They returned about half an hour later, my cousin walking in just as normal a toddler as you would want to see. This neighbor's daughter also witnessed the healing and still comments on it. All these healings came from applying the idea, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," and understanding its meaning. Read this book and you, too, can benefit from understanding just how this radical idea can be true, and help you, too.

I was healed by reading this book. Healed of the flu, injuries suffered from a bad fall, stomach disorder, lumps on the chest, and more. I've also learned how to heal others by using the ideas in this book. It's written in a new language, for new ideas, so keep at it. This book will make you better at whatever vocation and avocation you pursue -- whatever mosque, temple, shrine, or church you do or do not attend!
