For the gardener who is sick of simple rubbish from gardening magazines,
By J. Noten "Simple concepts are a waste of good... (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Planting Design: Gardens in Time and Space (Hardcover)
I loved this book. Unlike most American books on gardening, this one skips all the basics! It assumes you already either know a great deal or are willing to look a little information up. This results in a very high level and in-depth book that can take your gardening ability far beyond amateur standards. Some of my favorite parts were the sections dealing with natural competition, and plants that can co-exist. If a meadow can have a constantly changing dynamic of hundreds of plants, why can't we aim for that as our standard too? This book was full of some of the most gorgeous pictures of any gardening book I've ever read, and had excellent planning techniques and thought provoking ideas. The only problem is that you need to either be planning the design of city parks or have acre's for your flower garden to take full advantage of everything in this. A wonderful resource for dreaming, planning and learning. I highly recommend it for any gardener tired of the same basic useless rubbish you pick up in any gardening magazine. |
