Back Flip is a satirical yet charming book about the Toronto art scene of the late 1960s. There's the gallery owners, collectors, and the artists themselves- all unique characters in their own right, a couple I would even say are among the most unforgettable characters I've ever read about. Much of the story revolves around a painting (the Back Flip of the title) by a young artist, and the problems it causes.
Besides the whole art thing, there's sex, scandal, and a dash of tragedy thrown in for good measure. The plot is such that I was dying to find out what would happen next, and Denoon's prose is PRETTY! This is a great book, in fact it made the editors' '25 Best' list on amazon.ca, so give it a try.
