Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Edda: Hattatal (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book after a bit of research into available translations revealed that the Faulkes translation was amongst the best currently available. While Anthony Faulkes is responsible for this book, and while this book is very well put together and contains quite a lot of good information, this is unfortunately a very incomplete version of the Eddas. As the title suggests (and I was ignorant of this having not read the eddas before) this is only the 3rd section of the eddas(Snorri's personal material, not the material he collected). Also, like I said, Anthony Faulkes IS the editor of this edition (it is his notes and such) but this is not even a translation of the Hattatal.

Why Amazon has linked the comments from the Everyman's Library Anthony Faulkes translation, to this 1/3 of a book NOT in translation is beyond me. I have given this book 1 star, and that is because I assume If I can learn Icelandic (and I assume its in Icelandic...) his extensive notes in english may actually be helpful...

As the Everyman's Library version of Faulkes translation is not currently available on amazon.ca, I have ordered it from ebay and anxiously await its arrival.
