Another good on Stone Masonry.,

This review is from: The Art of the Stonemason (Paperback)
Another good book on traditional stone masonry. I wish there was some some colour photos in it. It does have some information that is not found in other stone mason books. Add it to your Stone Masonry library.

Excellent book if you are really intrested in learning the trade! Specifications on building substantial projects, basic principles of stone masonry. Feels like an apprenticeship as you read and study. Unfortunately, no one to ask questions of which you're bound to encounter. Even adds section on cutting stone- the only one I've seen.

good book from an experienced mason,

This book was great (except for its lack of color pictures). The stonemason showed a great many illustrations of stonework - ranging from walls, restoration, and arches. I think it was a good introduction to the fine art of stonemasonry.

As a self-employed stonemason, I can tell you this book is an essential tool for learning proper traditional stonemasonry. The author is a 5th generation stonemason and has put the info. together in a fashion that is easy to read and understand. I can honestly say if I did not read this book, I would not have achieved the level of success I've attained in the masonry industry over the past 15 years. I consider this book a "must have" for any stonemason, whether it be the serious "do-it-yourselfer", aspiring or the proven professional mason.

The author provides hard and fast do's and don'ts derived from his experience of many years. If you want to learn how to build a traditional mortared stone wall this is the best book around. With or without the color photos, buy it.

The book wasn't bad, but I felt was did not include enough variety. How about detail on putting up flagstone, or putting rock on an existing wood frame house wall... Still an interesting book and includes some neat info.
