Hilarious and informative book for children and adults,
By
This review is from: The Gas We Pass (Paperback)
This book is good fun for children and adults. The children will learn some useful information about the digestive system from the book and it's amusing enough for adults too. Some people may be offended by this book,to them I say: Well, it's not pleasant but everybody has gas, so get over it.

Not that Great,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Gas We Pass (Hardcover)
This books starts off pretty good. I like the fart humor, but then it gets into the scientifics. i am not against kids learning the science of gas, but it almost feels like two different books. the beginning seems like a good book to give a young child who is just learning about bodily functions. but then it starts getting into specifics and it feels like it needs an older audience. it's not a bad book. it's just not the books i was expecting.

Only good as a joke good for nothing else,

This review is from: The Gas We Pass (Hardcover)
Yes people with a sense of humour or an 11 year old love to laugh at farts, and it seems this is the book to give them. All though it says its intended to teach kids about farting/gas the mere thought of this book acutally helping a child with that is farfecthed. It tells vertually nothing except when you eat you can fart/burp and that all animals fart. Infact i think this book would be bad for children as it shows a elpehant farting witch knocks its trainer over (again its joke purpose appears again) Also it shows a picture of a naked boy (its a drawing nothing graphic but still) I think most monkeys would know the facts in this book but its pictures are mildy ammuseing and its pretty funny as a joke to give to someone as a present. All in all its pretty funny as a gag but useless as giveing children information on farting. Its humour for ages 6 and up pretty much thats all i think the authour ment for it to be...

comical kid's book on gas,

This review is from: The Gas We Pass (Hardcover)
From elephants to mice any everything in between, people and animals are passing gas. With crude drawings, the author explains how we get gas and how sometimes we burp, sometimes we fart. The original version of this book was in Japanese, which in itself is amazing. While we Westerners may not talk about farting in polite society, the Japanese don't even talk about bathrooms in polite society. Some friends of mine are currently living in Japan while working their for their jobs. When they were looking for a place to live, the real estate agent would not show them the bathrooms - even a toilet is enough to make people blush in polite Japanese society! Imagine discussing gas! Children, however, have to learn that things are embarrassing - to them, it's all natural. The illustrations are enough to inspire anyone who can doodle on a cocktail napkin that they can be a children's book illustrator. The illustrations are extremely crude and primitive. The book only has a handful of pages, and all are humorous. There is no information about when it is impolite to fart, just a few smattering animals here and there. There are a lot more things they could have included to make the book entertaining to adults while still being appropriate for children.

Understanding,

While this book was meant to explain "normal" bodily functions to a child, it is a great "bathroom" book. Us adults giggle at the pictures and words, that is, if you have a sense of humor. There was one reviewer who wrote "it is silly to write about this topic" - they obviously do not have children or a sense of hummor. Buy the book, enjoy.

kids book that deals frankly with the mystique of gas,

This review is from: The Gas We Pass (Hardcover)
I have to admit that I couldn't stop snickering the first time I read this book to my preschooler. It didn't help that the first page illustrates an elephant passing gas with KABOOM! But later on, I realized that this was the way author Shinta Cho intended to desensitize readers to what is a very taboo subject in polite society. With a frank and straightforward style, The Gas We Pass explains in layman's terms the reason our bodies produce gas, how we expel it and why this is a healthy, natural thing. A variety of people and animals are helpfully illustrated eating and farting. There is no sense of shame or mockery in the subtext, which helps children to avoid associating gas with jokes or rudeness. The drawings are a bit amateurish and simple, but they complement the text nicely. In all, not an exciting read, but it does explain this bodily function well for children. To this day my now five year old boy never tells fart jokes.

A hoot....or should I say... A toot?,

This books falls in line with *everyone poops* and *the holes in your nose*... not as good as the poop book and better the the nose book. First I have to say that all these books run in line with my son's general sense of humor. I got these for him a good number of years ago when he was first learning to read and I have to say that the subject matter was certainly motivating for him... He really wanted to read these, really wanted to know what these books said and really wanted to be able to read these to himself. I think that it is a very good thing that children do have some self motivation regarding reading. If you take exception with the subject that this wouldn't be a good book for you but if you don't mind it... than it would be a fun book to hook your kids on the fun of reading.

Nice Gag gift, but...,

This is a funny gag gift, really its so boring. You will read it once then its old news and will sit in your bath room for ages and collect dust. Their are many other ways to make a laugh at a gag b-day party, but this is old trash. I guess if their is an inside joke about gas, but if not then don't wast you money. Don't get me wrong I love to laugh, but this just gets old. Sorry to make some of you mad if you love this book, but its just not for me and I strongly think you should save you money, thank you thats all.

I first encountered this book in a gift shop in Bloomington, IN, and laughed so hard that I had to buy a package of their overpriced fancy tissues to wipe my eyes and nose. I don't know if that is more a comment on me, or on the book.
