Beware of writers asscoiated with large multi level marketing companies. It is a shame that this is being passed off as legitimate to people who really don't know the difference. Mixing big business marketing and religion is not easily disquised up by aromatic smoke screens.

This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
This book was totally un-put-downable !!! I am fascinated by the correlation between ancient beliefs/modern science and impressed by the research that has gone into this book - but most of all I am impressed by the easy, gentle way in which the Author guides us through what could be a potentially confusing subject without being pompous or arrogant.

I am not a particularly "religious" person and chose to allow the Author his perspective on the spirituality concepts as he believes them and found that this did not detract from the quality of the content of the book.

I was somewhat suprised by some of the vitriole that has been slung in this forum and in particular would like to respond to the concept one detractor of the book theorised.... "that there were no biblical oils because there were no complex, mechanical distilleries in ancient times....." absolutley correct ... and I would go futher ...as there were no TV sets or DVD players there obviously was no recreational relaxation in ancient times... and as there were no SUV's or sports cars obviously there was no mobility.... and of course because there was no chemical factories there was no medication and therefore no-one was ever "healed" .....

As to the allegation of "peddling" I must have been reading a different book??? I could not see anywhere in the book where Dr Stewart compromised his morals or ethics in fact it appears he has gone to lengths to encourage others to do their own research and if they choose to use Essential Oils that they do so with forethought, consideration and as an informed decision rather than blythly accepting whatever is told to them. His section on sharing the oils in church groups is obviously not for everyone - so those that aren't interested...skip that chapter..for those that are .... it will probably be a good basis for them to start sharing the knowledge they have gained with others that are interested in learning more but were to cheap to buy the book...

In summary Congratulations on an excellent book - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! and I look forward to the next one whenever that is....

This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
Dr. Stewart's ability to bring together knowledge from many disparate sources in a cohesive form that is easily accessible and understandable by anyone, regardless of their religious or educational background, makes this book a VALUABLE RESOURCE.

Anthropologists have found evidence of fragrant plants being combined with olive and sesame oils as early as 7000 BC. In 1975, Dr. Paolo Rovesti discovered a terra-cotta apparatus in the Indus Valley, carbon dated to 3000 BC, that is believed to be the first to be used for distilling essential oils from plants. There are numerous verses in Exodus that refer to the "holy annointing oil," and to the use of these oils for annointing the altar, the laver (wash basin), and more. Yet is was not the Bible's purpose to teach mankind about the therapeutic use of essential oils. In October, 1985, the National Geographic published a translation of an ancient Egyptian heiroglyph that reportedly said Frankincense was known to cure everything from gout to a broken head. The information about the use of essential oils is there in the ancient record, but its significance had remained hidden until recent years. Dr. Stewart's assertion that ancient peoples distilled essential oils from plants and used essential oils for healing and many other purposes during Biblical times is supported by recent discoveries in science and anthropology, and that information is available to anyone who wishes to spend the time to investigate it.

Dr. Stewart has shone a light on information contained in the Bible, and brought new understanding of Biblical accounts of the use of oils. His research was not limited to the Bible and associated documents, but also included Jewish texts, as well as disparate historical accounts that suggest strong support exists in the historical record for his thesis that essential oils were distilled, were available, were used, and that their healing benefits were well known during Biblical times.

A must have resource for anyone serious about understanding the healing potential and history of the use of essential oils.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing with essential oils, Oct 10 2003

This is a excellent book! A wonderful reference work! People in
bible times counted wealth by the oils that they possesed.
There was a reason that the Christ Child received gifts of
frankensense & myrh from the Wise Men!
The oils that Stewart refers to are the only food grade oils in
the U.S. All the rest are perfume grade & may be from the 2nd
third (or even more)pressings (or extractions) from the source.
Everything has a vibration ... from a piano to a rock. Some of
the vibrations actually have healing properties. The 2 negative
reviews might buy a copy of Dr.Robert O. Beckers book "The Body
Electric". I hear that he won a Nobel prize for his work.
We see color because of vibration. Oils work because of the
vibrations.
I was in a rather bad auto accident a little over a year ago.
I had 12 broken bones (pelvis for 1)& 2 partially collapsed lungs
but, the thing that hurt most was my right foot which wasn't
broken. Pain pills didn't do any good. One application of a blend
of the oils stopped the pain RIGHT NOW! After 6 months of pain!
I was shocked ... wasn't expecting ANYTHING!
Until or unless the two people that gave a negative review do
some research themselves ... they shouldn't knock this book. They
are coming from a place of ignorance! Maybe that is why they
didn't sign their reviews.
I would respectfuly suggest that anyone who is interested in the
benifits of non drug healing, buy this book ... as well as a
second one for their minister or others who are interested in
healing with something other than drugs.
The priests in the temples in Bible times anointed people. They
were the first "doctors". They used OILS to do this. Gee ...
back to the basics! And the Jews and Christians aren't the only
religions that use oils to anoint/heal.
Good book ... good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making sense of it all, Oct 18 2003

I loved this book. It was just what I needed to get me started with essential oils. The biblical foundation presented here was very important to me in considering such a radical departure from allopathic treatment methods. This book brought a new understanding of healing through essential oils and an awareness of another dimension between God and man that serves me still. It has helped me as a reference guide as I've continued my study of essential oils, as well. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about essential oils or wanting to understand more about the Bible. You can't find this information in other reference sources; and it shouldn't be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the negative reviewers on the "Healing Oils of the Bible?, Oct 3 2009
This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
I have read a couple of 1 star reviews that claim that David Stewart didn't know his butt from a hole in the ground because he claims that ancient oils of the Bible never healed people... did you really... really read the book? David Stewart has also made several claims in the book that the oils should be applied with the laying on of hands and prayer. To say that the healing oils of the Bible don't work is to say that fruit and vegetables and grains and nuts will never help you either... I have read the whole book through twice now and I think it is one of the best books I have ever read. And for those of you who comment on how he is brandishing this book to make money... just go back to your doctor and load up on pharmaceutical drugs and make yourself well again! To the person who wrote that the book is no good without purchasing the actual twelve healing oils of the Bible... really? Are you with it? The book is an educational resource on not only "how to use the oils", "the benefit of the oils"... but hummm... why wouldn't you WANT TO BY if not all twelve... at least one or two. Do you people have nothing better to do with your time than to write bitter reviews?

I have been using "Young Living Essential Oils" for years now and hummmmm.... I don't even get colds. No flu... I have used the oils for many things including my pets and even they are incredibly healthy! What? No doctors? Drink your thera-flu... pop a motrin... then a vicadin and be on your merry way! Don't speak out about things you know absolutely nothing about. I own the "Twelve Oils of Ancient Scripture" set and make them a part of my daily routine. Use them before you write a negative review for cripe sake! If you used them, you wouldn't be writing these moot reviews!

To the lady who said she was married to a theologian/pastor... whatever? What does that make him? Another guy with another opinion? People should use the intelligence that God gave them... ok? Think for yourselves people. If you don't want to buy the book or use the oils... don't. Don't see anyone here forcing you!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best book I've ever read on healing oils, Nov 14 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
This book is the most interesting and insightful book on oils used in ancient times and today that I have ever read. There are those who would say that this is a false book. That you shouldn't waste your money or time on it. For those, I have one question...Have you actually read the book!? I doubt many who rate this book badley have even opened one up. There is so much truth in this book. David Stewart is a great writer and his books are always so interesting. I have learned a lot about the oils that I did not know before just by reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It would make a great gift! If you are interested in the oils and would like to learn about how they were used in ancient times then this book is for you. You won't be sorry you bought it! Try it today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Nov 30 2011
This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
This book has some very interesting material in it. I found it to be informative and I really like how it is organized. I would highly recommend reading the introduction. It explains how he has laid out the book. You do not need to read the book in order by chapter, you can if you want just pick the chapters the interest you. However, this causes for a lot of repetition throughout the book that gets rather annoying. Some of the examples of oil blends that he talks about are from a multi level marketing company (Young Living)that he does promote through out the book...It is a very informative book from both a scientific and biblical perspective.

4.0 out of 5 stars Healing Oils of the Bible, Feb 11 2011
This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
The author has certainly done his homework and has a well layout out book. It is a very interesting book. Appendix D that lists the scriptural references is nice to have. When studying the weekly lectionary (from Church) it is nice to be able to refer to this appendix. Referencing different sources (in this case - healing oils) helps a bible study group to further enhance the understanding of such passages we may be reading. I think it is important to realize that one needs to be cautious when using some of the plant extracts if they are on medication prescribed by their health care provider. Medications are somewhat plant based and if you mix herbs with medications you could be overdosing or preventing your prescribed meds from working effectively. Ere on the side of caution - check with your health care provider. I will be able to use some of the information in my horticultural therapy workshops with regards to the plants of the Bible and introduce some of the aromatherapy into that workshop as part of a relaxation/calming effects that the scents may have on a person.
I recommend the book, it is very interesting to read. I'm a horticulturalist with a keen interest in plants of the Holy Land and have studied some theology. For me the two subjects go hand in hand. Enjoy the book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading, Mar 29 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Healing Oils Of The Bible (Paperback)
This book, which stands out singularly as an accomplishment to scholarship almost unheard of in this area, in itself, is a tremendous finding. I found some of the comments here quite archaic, which was disappointing but not surprising.

The comments onto the validity of the author's thesis by anthroplogists et al was refreshingly balanced. While those who herald merely 'science' as the be all of end alls in authority, and those who, and in particular, one comment, on her partners 'authority' on the matter was not a balanced review obviously. I am very sure that in those times persons found many resources for healing. In fact, we know this by the sheer fact that old testament prophets placed herbal packs on the sick (and so did Jesus).

The fact that the holy scriptures are not a medical or herbal or oil textbook is fairly obvious. But hopefully by now, as a scholar myself we can try to 'read' between the lines and source various sources. But it is true, history is never exact. So finding Truth here with a capital 'T' is not a place for someone whom still promotes faith healing as if a living God would never consider practical measures in healing. what a joke!!

As for those here who need to seperate 'alternative' with holiness, this is another atrocity in 'labelling'; I cannot think of another God who is more alternative. What an insult to alternative healers indeed.

Whether or not the organization of the writer, and association with mult-level, this still doesn't undermine the wealth of rich new learning here.

I suggest this book is wonderful for those with open 'labels' only, willing to learn and to discriminate, as only those can truly be receptive to knowledge in the end. Some of the rigidity is a travesty.
