5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes
The recipes in this book are wonderful, I have tried several and they all worked out perfectly. I personally like the extra information about how they tested out the recipe. I think it's a good idea because an inexperienced cook may think that using something else would give as good a result and then be disappointed. Although they could have probably shoved more...

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title / Book
One would ASSUME from reading the title and seeing the picture that they baked a bunch of recipes/ cheesecakes and came up with a winning one that they made 100's of flavors/variations ... How wrong can one be !

There is literally 2 - 3 pages on cheesecakes and the rest is recipes for dinner/desserts... Buy it if you want that however do NOT assume you're...

The recipes in this book are wonderful, I have tried several and they all worked out perfectly. I personally like the extra information about how they tested out the recipe. I think it's a good idea because an inexperienced cook may think that using something else would give as good a result and then be disappointed. Although they could have probably shoved more recipes in there, that's just not the Cook's way. Check out their magazines and the book is consistent with that format.

I really like Cook's Illustrated. I was looking for a cookbook about healthy recipes and I found it. Recipes are great and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking at making healthier meals for their family.

Love this whole series. For those who are just looking to throw ingredients together with minimal direction and explanation, this is probably not the series for them. But, if you are a true "foodie" and interested in a more "cooking school" approach, you will love these books as its about WHY a particular version of a recipe has been chosen and the process used. It's not so much about the number of recipes but the quality of the recipes in the book. Each time I try a recipe, I am more impressed with the results and consequently have started to cull all my other cookbooks and recipes since just this series fills my needs.

The cheesecakes that they do mention are loaded with sugar which causes the pancreas to make fat anyways so why bother using light cream cheese and yogurt and sour cream and .... ???

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice recipes, too much information, Jan 15 2008
This review is from: The Best Light Recipe: Would You Make 28 Light Cheesecakes to Find One You'd Actually Want to Eat? We Did. Here Are 300 Lower Fat Recipes Tha (Hardcover)
For someone who just started cooking and baking seriously (in the past year or two), I found there was too much information on why and how light sour cream works better than regular sour cream etc. I cook and bake for fun and to provide my family with healthy meals. I felt given the size of the book there shld have been more recipes. I have only tried a few of them and they've been OK. I have heard much better reviews from cook books from Noreen Gilletz- who is amazing in the kitchen and her processor cookbook and her Millenium book are amazing!
