5.0 out of 5 stars On combat. Worth the money
Fantastic read , i work as a full time firefighter with my municipality and as a soldier with the candian primary reserves. Reading through the book i have found it to be a very good read. The auther touches on things that even as a fire fighter i and other have experianced and delt with . For example he talks about training on the simple drills and training like you...

Fantastic read , i work as a full time firefighter with my municipality and as a soldier with the candian primary reserves. Reading through the book i have found it to be a very good read. The auther touches on things that even as a fire fighter i and other have experianced and delt with . For example he talks about training on the simple drills and training like you play ( giving many example of how its important) so that when you are under extream pressure you will react in the way you trained . Or another example sleep deprevation and how it affects your proformance .

Only one draw back is , is that he is constatly pumping up other books . Although be it if they are as good as this one i will be impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make you think twice, Dec 24 2012
This review is from: On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace (Paperback)
every person working law enforcement or military should read that book. It help to understand so many grey zone and tabou questions that every one of us don't dare asking, or simply don't have the answer. And how to prepare mentally to every situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The next Chapter of 'On Killing', Oct 14 2009

An insightful read of the effects of deadly force encounters. Dave puts it clearly and matter of factly what happens when faced with lethal threats and how to overcome the bodies natural instincts and reactions. This book extends on the material covered in 'On Killing' and is a must read for anyone who may have to use lethal force in their lawful duty. As a former Canadian Forces Airborne Paratrooper and many years of carrying duty firearms, I recommend this book to help you prepare for the worst.

I have had the privilege of listening to Col Grossman talk and instruct. I had, past tense, had a signed copy of this book that I loaned and person misplaced. A book should be shared and absorbed by all, so I have no regrets other than the signed copy (personal reasons).

If I could only purchase one of Col. Grossmans books this is it. I still own "On Killing", but I enjoyed reading "On Combat" more. Col. Grossman refined his approach in this book versus previous in an easier to read format and understandings.

Ideal for any person who has been, will be involved in the fight, or supplying training, counselling in the area. Yes, it fits a wide range audience.

Definitely worth the purchase. I will again, and yes, I will loan it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave gets it right, July 7 2008

The book is a logical clearly written piece of prose. It explains to the layman or policeman a lot of things they intrinsicallly feel are correct but were never educated about.

Dave puts into words a lot of research in such a way as to make the reader feel relieved about their own experience and intuition.

A great work.

Leroy

This book is a must read for anyone considering serving in the military. It is well written without being wordy while not being overly simplistic. You should probably avoid this book if you believe that there is never a place for violence or are an ardent pacifist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for police/military personnel, Jun 3 2011
This review is from: On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace (Paperback)
This book should be mandatory reading for any police officer or military personnel. Having experienced first hand police shootings, this book helped me understand what I went through and how to best deal with it. I cannot recommend this book enough to all front line police officers and combat military personnel.
