This is a valuable book for any IT hiring manager or for any dba not experienced as an interviewer. Mike Ault has put together a good approach and guide for a fair and balanced interview. All you'll need is some good candidates

A long time ago I purchased a book by Mike Ault and inside there were the same questions he publised in this book - the problem is that a good portions of these questions are completely obsolete by now (like SQLnet v2 or utlbstat/ustat questions) while some answers are wrong (like myths about high hit ratios)!
This book should never be published (like almost all the rest of 'Rampant' books). Save your money and get Oracle Interview Questions from the net as these found in this book will not be asked on Oracle job iterviews.

Does Mr Ault realize that this book would help Oracle DBA candidates get jobs too ?

Picture this :

1 You have a hirer who knows next to nothing about Oracle and uses this book.
2 You have a candidate who also knows next to nothing about Oracle using the same book.
3 An interview
4 All questions answered correctly.
5 Bingo! You have a hiring!

Since there will always be more Oracle DBA candidates than hirers, I'll bet that Mr. Ault will make more money selling this book to Oracle DBA CANDIDATE customers than Oracle hirers.

This allows an excellent guide for evaluating the Oracle job candidate and is very effective in weeding out the people who really know Oracle. Ault has some great questions tht only a real DBA would know.

I;m often asked to interview technical applicants without knowing exactly how to tell if their job skills are real, and I found this text to be very helpful. I recommend it for all IT managers who need to hite Oracle programmers.

Hire a professional who graduated with a master or doctor degree from an Ivy league school, is Oracle certified, has 10 years of experience, intelligent, tenacious, self-confident, self-motivated, curious, polite, trained in special skills,recognized as an expert, writes books and articles and dresses well.
Sorry Einstein, you are out.

If IT managers need this book, the organization is probably in big trouble. Contains very basic stuff. With smaller fonts this is probably a 50-page white paper. The material is not worth the money.

The book costs about $15, do charity with this and get some tax relief.

This book is not worth the price.

I am not aware of any other book that addresses the needs of the Oracle hiring manager and applicant alike. This book is packed with interview questions that help separate the wheat from the chaff.

This book forms a good foundation for the manager to understand the Oracle candidate and a good source for practice questions for an Oracle candidate. Is it the ultimate, final source on all things that can be asked or should be asked? No, but it doesn't pretend to be. The questions are ones I have used and have been asked on many interviews and that alone makes it worth the price.

I can never trust job applicants and I have been burned many times by Oracle wannabes who stretch their skills. I found the guidelines and oral question to be very helpful for screening out the best qualified Oracle programmers. The only improvement I woulkd make is to add more detail on the extected answers because sometimes the people ramble on about their answers, and I;m not always sure about the correct response. But despite this small fault, it has helped me greatly.
