5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorite cookbooks
With both a huge, comprehensive informational section that discusses substitutions, alternatives, how to shop, how to spot "taboo" ingredients, how to deal with restaurants, etc., AND over 100 recipes, this is more than a cookbook, but a fabulous resource for anyone who's dairy free (or has allergies to eggs as well). I love Alisa's recipes precisesly because they bring...

1.0 out of 5 stars Informative but uninspiring
I was after innovative recipes that would make me mourn the loss of dairy a little less. Some recipes do fit that bill but involve ingredients I can't see myself stocking in my pantry. Since there are no photos it's very difficult to imagine that these strange ingredients with strange names will result in anything other than something strange. The majority of the...

This review is from: Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance, and Casein-free Living (Paperback)
I love Alisa's recipes precisesly because they bring me so many favorites made in new ways--a dairy free, sugar free, wheat free, egg free banana bread, for instance--as well as many innovative and delicious new recipes (peanut butter truffles? Yes, please!).

When I first received Go Dairy Free I tried about a dozen recipes within the space of a week and can honestly say I enjoyed them all, from pasta dishes to scones to faux cheeses. All of the ingredients can be found in a supermarket or natural foods store, and the healthier alternatives (such as using spelt flour instead of wheat) are almost always provided as an option so you can either choose to use them or not. When I need a recipe I can count on to work out as promised and to provide a delicious result, Go Dairy Free is my Go-To cookbook!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for anyone going diary-free!, Feb 27 2012
This review is from: Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance, and Casein-free Living (Paperback)
This book has been a HUGE help on our journey to dairy-free living. It's such a great resource. Go Dairy Free is basically a guidebook full of tips, recipes, ideas, resources. We have two kids who need to live on a dairy-free diet and this book made the transition so much easier for all of us. This book covers all aspects of dairy-free living, including an entire chapter on calcium-rich foods, and shopping guides. Two years into our dairy-free journey and I still grab for this book all the time.

Since there are no photos it's very difficult to imagine that these strange ingredients with strange names will result in anything other than something strange. The majority of the recipes in this book are just plain old recipes with logical substitutions thrown in. I don't need to buy a book to be told to try using soy or almond milk rather than cows milk. That's commonsense. You probably have better recipes in other cookbooks that you could make similar substitutions with.
