Engaging, thought provoking, and easy to pick up, Feb 28 2009
This review is from: The Best of Every Day Fiction 2008 (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic little book full of a bunch of short stories (under a thousand words.) This makes it great for the coffee table, the nightstand, or (!) the bathroom, anywhere where you might find yourself with ten or fifteen minutes to spare on an engaging story. It's much nicer to pick this book up than it is to throw on the television, or flip through a magazine. It's harder to put down, though- I often find myself burning through quite a few of these in one sitting, they're addicting!
These are the best stories of 2008 from www.everydayfiction.com, a website where authors contribute their short stories that you can read for free, well, everyday. The quality of the stories is already quite high, and I think the editors did a great job of deciding which ones made the cut. They aren't throwaways- I'm always left with something to think about. In fact I think the quality of the stories is what sets this book apart from other collections.
It's nice to read online, but the book version is great because of how convenient it is to keep around. The only thing it doesn't have is little feet that you can unfold to make it into it's own little coffee table. What gives?
