In "Never Have Your Dog Stuffed," Alan Alda chats away in a friendly, self-deprecating style about the people and ideas that made him the man he is today. His childhood was chaotic, scary, and lonely. His father was always moving around to get acting jobs, his mother was prone to violence and paranoia, and at school, he was a bully-magnet.

If you're hoping for juicy stories about celebrities, you'll be disappointed; he doesn't talk about other performers. He focuses on his parents, his wife, his schooling, and professional struggles in a series of amusing stories that keeps you turning the pages, smiling, and often chuckling out loud. He comes across as a likeable, intelligent, and sometimes manic fellow who is first and foremost a loving husband and father. I wish he had come up with a better title, and it bothered me that he never gives dates, but it is still a thoroughly enjoyable read, one that his fans are sure to enjoy.
