I started my GL collection with this and "rebirth" and I must admit i thoroughly enjoyed them both.
The Sinestro Corps War is a great read and I highly recommend it. Though I really enjoyed GL in the justice league cartoons when I was a kid, I had never actually read any of the comics. Personally, I think Geoff Johns' run is a great introduction and essential reading for any GL fan.
My girlfriend started off with the Sinestro Corps war, she was able to fill in the blanks pretty easily, and with only the movie as her introduction, was easily brought into the GLC universe, she was enamored by the series and has continued reading them along with me.

Marvel should take a cue from DC on how to do an event comic. This storyline is one of the best ones to ever come out of DC comics in a while. I've been a Green Lantern fan since I got into comics in the late 80s, and this title has never been this good. This particular storyline is sweeping in grandeur. It totally rewards those that have been reading the current series. New readers who have never read any of the previous volumes may find this confusing, almost akin to watching (or reading)Tolkien's Return of the King without going through the first two films (or books). Two thumbs up, or in this case... 5 Stars to all involved in delivering this story.
