This review is from: Superman: Secret Origin Deluxe Edition HC (Hardcover)
I am a fan of Superman and have been for years, the origin has been told countless time but I really enjoyed the Superboy tie in this story, as well as staying true with plot lines that had been established already. The Deluxe Edition is Fantastic the art and Sketches are a great edition, and the written commentaries help visualize what Mr. Jones and Mr. Frank had in mind when making this bookI loved that Gary Frank used Christopher Reeve as a Template for this incarnation of Superman, but just using his feature would have been better. My only complaint is if I wanted to see Christophe Reeve play Superman I would watch the movie. I didn't enjoy the fact that "Clark" in this book was a direct copy from the Superman Movies, the way he acted the way he talked everything. I'm all for paying homage to a great man but maybe try to make the character more your own in the writing. If you are a fan of Geoff Jones (like I am) you will know that the story takes time to get interesting but when it does its all worth it, for any Superman fan this is a must own.

A Great intro to Superman,,

One can say Superman comics changed appreances more based on the artist, and writer than any other comic. You would think character that's been around for 80+ years would have found himself by now. The reason I bring up this point is that Gary Frank has captured Christopher Reeve in his interpretations of Superman, ann for some reason I identify this depiction as the real Superman.....This oversized 250+ pages of the origin of Supes covers some of the most character definning moments in young Clark/Superman's life. Finding out why his different, moving to the big city, and of course battling bad guys. I really enjoyed this book, and have recently read it for the second time. Both times I come away wondering why all Superman books could not tell as wonderful of a story. I would rank this book up there with All Star Superman, Superman for All Seasons, and Superman Red Son as one the best. Don't over look this book, it is a good one..... If they are looking for a good story ideas for the next movie they should look at this book.

Story line a bit disappointing,
By Seithenin (Canada) - See all my reviews

The artwork for this work was good, but there was no subtlety to the story line at all. For instance, what seems to be within a few hours Lex Luthor is able to create Magneto, and figures out that Superman's Achilles heal is Kryptonite from another, barely-related incident.I found this really surprising from these authors, but it gets three stars since the artwork is so well done. Clark is very Christopher Reeve-esk in this rendition. |
