IT'S A FUN RIDE... but, STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE - A HIGH OCTANE Super-Hero Action Adventure all the way!,
By
This review is from: Justice League Vol. 1: Origin (The New 52) (Hardcover)
For this (New 52) Justice League debut the action explodes onto the page from the very beginning. It starts out where you are in mid battle with the Flash and Green Lantern amidst some urban chaos, while they exchange silly banter referencing pop culture. All this intensity gorgeously illustrated by the master artist Jim Lee.Justice League Vol. 1: Origin collects Justice League 1-6. What appealed to me and made me pick up (borrowed) this title was the fact that it featured Jim Lee's artwork; which was the greatest strength of this graphic novel. The writing however... The other reviewer on here couldn't have said it better "If Michael Bay wrote comics this is what it would be." The truth is, yes it's mostly style over substance. It's a summer blockbuster "popcorn" spectacle. I for one wasn't too impressed with the cheesy dialogue throughout. I was a huge fan of the Animated Justice League Series where they had clever writing; they balanced style, substance and intelligence. There are many instances where an epic storytelling of a grand scale involving many Super Heroes done intelligently with mass appeal without the lost of integrity. Like Marvel's The Avengers (Blu-ray/DVD Combo). I feel that the writer had a lot of potential to create excellent writing without sacrificing the exciting blockbuster element (for example The Dark Knight Trilogy Limited Edition Giftset (Batman Begins / The Dark Knight / The Dark Knight Rises) [Blu-ray]) Maybe next time! :) This was an okay read, I was hoping for more! If you are looking for great art, lots of action like an action B-movie flick (my guilty pleasure) this one's for you! I think it's fair to say it's worth a look, but not for my collection... It was enjoyable but sadly easily forgettable. Crofty :)

Quick one liners, nice visuals, and a whole lot of explosions. Sound familiar? Right like a those buddy movies from the 80's and 90's. I loved those movies. The great thing about that type of story is that you do not go into them thinking it is going to be a groundbreaking experince that changes your view on the world, pollitics, or life in general. This is the essence of Vol 1. of Johns, and Lee's JL. Lots of fun banter, some really good action, and a somewhat popcorn style story. That is certainly not a critism of the book, we all need to let go of the notion that everything we read or watch needs to have a deeper meaning. Letting a fun story be what it is can be a very liberating experience that reminds us that fun can simply be had while turning our brains off for a few hours. I have read this twice. My first go around I was somewhat critical of this comic, partly because I had lofty expectations, and reading as it came out in single issue. Then I read the whole story in one sitting, and it was fantastic ( for the reasons listed above ). Do not let your need for books like The Watchmen, Sandman, Batman Year One and Swamp Thing keep you from reading this fun take of some of the best superheroes we will ever see.

I'll be short. It's not a bad book, not a good book. It's an entertaining book but it fall a bit short... It's an entertaining start and a better take of the Justice League than it's preview incarnation. The art is Ok ( it's Jim Lee, but it's not in is better form...). John writing is ok but not stellar ( i'm not the greatest fan). But overall, it's just fun. (Wonder Woman a bit weird... )

Justice League (DC New 52) - An Excellent Reintroduction!,
This review is from: Justice League Vol. 1: Origin (The New 52) (Paperback)
When I was younger I had a great number of comics (until they were stolen), because of the theft I decided to stop collecting comics (let's just say it wasn't exactly a motivating experience). I read all sorts of collaborated superhero teams. This past year I started reintroducing myself into the world of comics and/or graphic novels. And I gotta say that DC's New 52 'Justice League Volume 1' was truly refreshing, it brought back the past of how fun comics were to read but at the same time it's done in a modern stylistic approach. "Five Star Hands Down!"

This was the first collection from the New 52 that I picked up and I have zero regrets on the matter. I simply loved this volume from start to finish. The art is fantastic, the story engaging and smoothly written with nothing heavy. At the end it left me wanting more - so much more. If someone told me they were looking to start reading the New 52 and asked what they should pick up first I wouldn't hesitate before saying Justice league Origins.

As a new superhero comics fan I really loved this one. The only superhero comic I have ever read was one of the JLA series (and I don't even remember which one) but I do remember I liked it a lot. And this new 52 JLA was definitely a great start for me! The story was interesting and well constructed with some humor.I knew Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman but did not really hear about other heroes in the past. This one really made up for what I've missed. Flash and Green Lantern were so funny together. Although Superman was a bit different from what I pictured but I liked this version of him also.

Occasional Reader Loves It!,

This review is from: Justice League Vol. 1: Origin (The New 52) (Hardcover)
Reason for Reading: I was interested in checking out this "new 52" event and have always enjoyed the super-hero teams including The Justice League.I enjoyed this immensely! I am coming at this as an occasional comic reader. I love DC's universe and grew up reading secondhand comics and today read the occasional graphic novel when the mood suits me though I haven't read any series for some years now. My review is from this "occasional reader" point of view. I just loved coming into all these familiar characters anew, with a fresh start in the modern world joining up together for the first time. I found the story exciting and a thrill to read. The villain in this volume is Darkseid and his first appearance in the book is stunning. The artwork throughout is fantastic. The story not only gives us the origin story of how the Justice League came to be but also gives us the origin story of Cyborg which is very satisfying. As usual I also enjoy the humour and an ongoing theme was Green Lantern's taunting Batman that he has no super powers. To paraphrase: You're just a guy in a bat suit? What, are we going to talk to them in a deep voice? A lot of fun and I enjoyed the team's interactions with each other. No one is really thrilled to be joining together as a group, except Batman. He is the only one who sees the need for them to make a joint effort to show the citizens of Earth that they (super-heroes) are the good side. This is a great way to get back into the universe and find your favourite characters fresh without previous baggage.

A really nice book for newcomers, maybe not so much for veterans.,
This review is from: Justice League Vol. 1: Origin (The New 52) (Hardcover)
I've always been a fan of superheroes, but I have a confession to make: I'm a newbie to the whole comic book world! I always found it too difficult to follow the continuity that I simply rejected the idea of starting a series. So when I heard that DC was rebooting their entire universe, I felt like it was my chance to finally get into comic books. Justice League is colorful, funny and mostly, fun. Is it deep? Not really. Does it develop the characters? Not really. I feel like Justice League is a nice easy read for newcomers and it might encourage them to buy the other titles with their favourite characters from this one. And for those complaining of the lack of depth, you should wait for the next hardcover, Issue 9 already started with a darker tone. So yeah, the new 52, you either buy the concept are you keep bickering over your lost continuity.
