Well, this is an interesting approach to losing weight! I just got the book last week so I am not sure what the long-term outcome will be. Didn't really work for me, though I did notice I slowed down when eating but other than that......maybe I'll try it again, but maybe I'm just not good for hypnosis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Approach, Jan 8 2009

Well, this is an interesting approach to losing weight! I just got the book last week so I am not sure what the long-term outcome will be. However, as for now I like the book and the idea of working on my subconscious. I believe that with a little practice of the principles laid out by the author you could learn to love yourself and that this could actually bring about good results. I also believe that the included CD can be really helpful. I listen to it each evening after going to bed, just before falling asleep. I know it for a fact that this self-hypnosis method has already been proven even by people trying to quit smoking.

Many of us know the basic principles of losing weight. However Paul McKenna shows his readers a way of doing that with no need for a big sacrifice that cause us to fail in the long run. It seems that Paul can indeed make you thin...

I am over 40 and controlling my weight has become more difficult in the last few years. I recognized long time ago that all the "wonder diets" that are based on willpower never work in the long run. The most helpful book so far in that respect was for me Your Body Maintenance Handbook. It helped me control my weight for the last few years. The author of the book, similar like Paul McKenna, concentrates on the many reasons that drive people to obesity. Both authors also suggest slow eating, chewing each bite well, and concentrating on the taste of food. Now, I am trying McKenna's approach and I am hopeful that it will improve my good grip on my weight. On the negative side I find "I Can Make You Thin" rather expensive considering the amount of information it contains. I think this book should not cost more than $10. For that reason I subtracted one star of the rating.

Wow what a great book. I saw him on the show Steven and Chris and said I've got to try this. Amazon was the cheapest price too! I started reading it as soon as I got it. I have since lost 10 pounds by just listening to what the writer told me. IT WORKS!!! It comes with a CD to help motivate you during your weight loss. I would recommend this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can make you thin!, May 12 2011

I can tell you that I believe in Paul McKenna! I used to be such a binger. I couldn't stop, didn't know how to stop couldn't even think of not putting food into my mouth! I tried so many different pills to make you thin, different weight loss programs. The last one I was on was Weight Watchers and I still was gaining weight cause I would use all my points!

I bought "I can make you thin" and read a couple of pages, listened to the DVD, THEN I listened to the CD! You must really listen to this every single day! That is the only mission here...listen to a CD every day by laying down and relaxing and getting thin! I am no longer a binger, I even started running!!!!! Me run?? The last time I ran I was 12 years old and now I'm 40! I have thinned out so much and lost weight! I used to weigh 150 lbs and now I weigh 125 lbs! I used to weigh myself every single morning like clockwork and now the balance is hidden in a closet and I don't need it anymore, don't use food as a comfort anymore either!

I have updated this to show my new weight after only a few months...how amazing is this tool! I listen to the cd once a week now. I really recommend this book and cd to anyone who has a binge problem or thinks they are overweight but can't do anything about it cause Paul McKenna will do something about it!

Paul McKenna, I can finally say this for once in my life, you have changed my life for the better! Thank you!

As you read this book, Paul Mc Kenna explains the four golden rules, which, if you are like me, you will find very illuminating. Listening to the cd tended to make me nod off, but that's ok because the unconscious mind works 24/7, and he is an excellent hypnotist.

The very first day I noticed different thinking around food. Following the golden rules, I started paying attention to when I was actually hungry before eating, and stopping eating when I felt full. This made a difference to how much I consumed and ordered. I thought ordering the fries with lunch would make me feel more than full, and so I passed on them.

I also attempted to eat more consciously. This was actually the hardest part, but, it's like anything, the more you practice, the better you get.
The easiest rule to follow was to eat what I want.

I found his explanation of the golden rules very compelling, I mean when we deprive ourselves, our body thinks there's a famine, and slows down the metabolism, and goes into fat storage mode. Also, what you resist persists, so if you give up a certain food you like, you might end up thinking about it more, and we know how that story ends, right?

The visualisations, and self image exercises are excellent.

Here was my experience with using these principles. I lost 14 pounds within a month and then plateaued within a four pound range. I also started taking Mercola's probiotics around this time which I found removed my sugar cravings.

Sometime afterwards I experimented with new supplements particularly Secretagogues which help to promote the release of human growth hormone. I lost about 11 pounds in a month and once again plateaued around that weight for about 8 months.

Recently, I started taking Spirulina regularly and a product called Jack 3D which helps boost testosterone levels and have lost another 7 pounds. I think Spirulina may be the best superfood as it is packed with protein and regular intake about 10 tabs at a time improves my musculature.

Contrary to what McKenna proposes I do my best to eat healthy and no longer drink soft drinks or eat white bread.

I hope you found this helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars End Of Dieting, Jun 11 2013

My sister-in-law told me about this book. I thought well give it a try. I've tried everything else about dieting. This book has changed my whole outlook on the word DIET. Thank-you Dr. McKenna for showing me that dieting is not the way to loose weight. Knowing my body is. I will be forever thankful to my sister-in-law for letting me know that this book existed.

The program he outlines works as long as you follow it. I lost 25 pounds starting here.
Unfortunately the DVD won't play on any of my machines, but the book is a good start anyway.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
McKenna writes a concise and easy to understand book and reveals a workable plan to shed pounds. I do not feel hungry or deprived. I feel inspired to reach my goal. The C.D. provided with his book is relaxing and helps me with the motivation to stick to the plan. I believe this is the answer to all of us who consume extra calories without realizing it. I highly recommend the book and c.d.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked So Far!, Feb 17 2009

So I thought i would take Paul up on his bold statement that he could make me thin. I have always been active but have always struggled with that extra 15-30 lbs of emotional and over-eating weight. Diets only made it more difficult to keep the weight off and I found my anxiety around food and hopelessness was getting worse. I was pretty discouraged when I bought this book I guess you could say.
Well, I LOVE this approach. It really preaches that everything you need to lose weight is you and your body. The CD is great too. Very relaxing and seems to help. I really hopes this works long term. I lost 3lbs. in the first two weeks and I am hoping it is just the beginning. I will never diet again. I will return for a long term post all going well. I love it! Give it a try!

I saw this for the first time on TV. I watched it & tried the methods described. And yes, I lost 28 Lbs. Of course, you do have to get up & MOVE, too. Focus on 'what you do have' and not what you don't have in your life. Make it happen!!! Stop living the life you don't want & start living the life you DO WANT!!! A lot of the things that we discussed made a lot of sense. Try it ~ it works!!!
