Four women, strangers from the Midwest, head to South Africa on a two-week mission trip. Each have their own, selfish reasons for the trip, and none of them are really thinking about helping the people that they are going to minister to. No, but God has a greater plan, and four women are about to have their lives turned upside down by the heart of the women of Africa. No one will come away unchanged.I really enjoyed this story. The book deals with so many difficult issues - poverty, HIV, AIDS, Infertility and Teenage Pregnancy. I felt and cried with the characters, and was blessed by the changes that took place in their lives. A mission trip, like the one described in the book, can be a powerful event in the life of a person. After all, we don't really understand what we take for granted until we see the world through someone else's eyes. I would highly recommend Beaded Hope. (I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review.)

I'm speechless. This book touched me in ways I was not expecting. It brought tears in my eyes, smiles on my faces and hope. This book stirred my heart so much that I look forward to go on another mission trip in the future. It has been too long since the mission trip in Dominican Republic back in 2005. *Sigh*Oh I so wish I could pack my bags right now and go help in Africa or any other country in the world. But for now, I can only pray for our sponsored kids through Compassion Canada who live in Bolivia, Dominican Republic and Thailand. While reading this magnificient novel, you will get attached to the women in this novel and you will see the hope that South African women have for themselves and their children. This book will bring up subject like miscarriage, teen pregnancy, aloneness, survival, sickness, adoption, abandonment, marriage and so on. The lives of four women will intertwined each other so deeply that friendship is almost impossible. Wondering how you can help women from South Africa to support their family? It's quite simple actually, go to BEADED HOPE and purchase something there. The sales enable these women to earn money and support their families. The purchase of one 15$ item will put food on an artist's table for 2 days and empowers her. [...] |
