2.0 out of 5 stars CNC MACHINE
Would have like a whole lot more inforrmation on programing rather than building. Entire book is building the machine with very little on control. For example, how do you program it to print, or carve out a name for example. This information was lacking.

Firstly, let me say that I have been watching this project online for some time and I was very enthusiastic to purchase my copy in support the project, website, DIY mentality and of course the author and creator.

Overall this book presents information clearly and contains many useful tips and techniques. It is important to note that the website for this project was developed before the book, so it videos and forum are a fantastic reference companion for the written material. My only major grievence with this book is the lack of a complete BOM for a single unit. Each chapter has a list of materials for that particular aspect of the job but a single list of parts would be invaluable. For example, if you wanted to go to a fastner store and purchase all of your fastners for the complete project at once, you are out of luck. I have no doubt that the author will eventually provide this information on the website along with some additional resources but I think the point of publishing this project in a book is defeated by the requirement to access the online files.

The hours of enjoyment and empowerment that come from building your own CNC machine far outweigh the cost of this book and materials so buy this book an build your own!

This book is very well done, for the beginner in CNC. The instructions are clear, the diagrams useful and the step-by-step procedure very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Exciting Book for First Time CNC Builder, Jan 11 2012
This review is from: Build Your Own CNC Machine (Paperback)
I have to say "Great Job" to the Authors of this book for going into such great detail on how to build this project. I'm brand new to CNC, and excited about building the machine in this book. The authors actually built more than one machine just to include the numerous photos that detail every step of the project. And, they have supported the book with an online website that has color pictures and videos for the builder, as well as parts sources for stepper motors, motor controllers, etc. If this is your first CNC machine - this is the book to get.
