I have been using the ESV Study Bible as a main resource for my own studies and preaching for some time now. Recognizing that the ESV Study Bible is a very academic work, and massive to carry around, I was very pleased when this came out because it strikes a much better balance for the average Christian. The team has taken the incredibly comprehensive notes in the full-size Study Bible and condensed them for average readers, then added some neat features like character profiles and answers to quick, common questions. I would recommend the ESV Study Bible for anyone studying theology or involved in a pastoral ministry, and I would recommend the Study Study Bible for almost anyone else!
It is worth noting that I believe the ESV to be the best translation available today. There isn't time for a full review of the translation, but the most important thing to me is clarity and accuracy. The ESV does a good job of capturing the Greek, and I have heard more sermons where preachers have to correct other translations, where the ESV has the word that they correct it to. At the same time, the ESV, though a little beyond the Grade 4 reading level, is still very readable, and as you spend more time in it you come to appreciate how the word-for-word approach allows it to capture some of the different genres more effectively than thought-for-thought translations. Along with the extensive study notes in this Bible, I think that the ESV is able to be a good Bible for almost any Christian, as long as they have a basic grasp of the English language.

This Bible is extra super! The content and the lay out. Not bulky to carry with you. Imit. leather is very good quality and very nice brown and coral color. The floral design is beautiful and very feminine. All notes at the end are very instructive. I recommend this Bible to all women, teen and tweens: excellent must for study. They only star missing is the print quality on the chapter's name: the print color used two colors bleu and purple to create mauve and 1 page on 2 it is off; creating a funkydellic illusion doubling the letters...not nice and kind of eye bothering. Hope that Crossway does something about it.
