(HALL OF FAME)    (TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Black Sabbath: Doom Let Loose: An Illustrated History (Paperback)
As if there was any doubt! Martin Popoff, the absolute genius guru of all things metal, has done it again. Yes, I am a tremendous fan of his work and that's my bias, but prove me wrong. The guy knows his stuff. His informal writing style and blunt honesty is refreshing.

In this beautiful full-colour book, Popoff discusses every song from every album, in detail. When he doesn't like a song, he tells you, and he tells you why. Along for the ride are pretty near every Black Sabbath member ever. Popoff's encyclopedic knowledge of metal means he knows all about these guys and their respective histories. But he doesn't leave it at that, and he asks the tough questions. He also pulls from obscure old interviews from such sources as M.E.A.T. Magazine. Try finding those interviews now! (I have them, but you're not likely to find them anymore.) Want to know why Dio didn't do any Tony Martin songs live on the Dehumanizer tour? It's here. Want to know what happened to Glenn Hughes? Here too. Want to know who really wrote "Heaven and Hell"? Wonder no more (as if there was any question, really)!

You can stare at this book for hours, but what I like to do is read along while I'm listening to the albums. The insight contained here really helps you appreciate the music you love so much more.

Possibly Popoff's best book. 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!, July 28 2007
This review is from: Black Sabbath: Doom Let Loose: An Illustrated History (Paperback)
Of all of the Sabbath books in print, this is by far the best one. Martin Popoff keeps you interested throughout with a writing style that is second to none. It's a high quality book that's jam packed with amazing photos of every incarnation in the Sabs legendary career. Enjoy it...I certainly did!
