A great photographic record of the CPR,
By GrayCam (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Canadian Pacific: Stand Fast, Craigellachie! (Paperback)
To have a good eye in photography means not only taking pretty pictures but more importantly taking photographs that tell a story, that provide context and that make the viewer think. Mr. McDonnell's photographs do all those things. They are a wonderful photographic history of the CPR. And like any good photographer, Mr. McDonnell finds wonderful stories in the detail; the small things that tell the bigger story. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the CPR, in railways in general or in photography. Bravo Mr. McDonnell.

This review is from: Canadian Pacific: Stand Fast, Craigellachie (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this book immensely because it's exactly what I expected: a superb coffee table book containing a pictorial survey of the great CPR, an institution that helped build a united Canada. The photographs are excellent and cover much of the steam era and, of course, also the diesel era up to the present time. Each photo has a detailed, informative and interesting caption so that by the time one has seen a few pages and admired the phtos one has also learned a great deal. I recommend this book without reservation.
