Best resource for Canadian gardeners,
This review is from: Lois Hole's favorite trees & shrubs (Paperback)
Excellent book for basic gardening and picking out shrubs and trees. Great color pictures and detailed information about growing specific trees and shrubs. Lois Hole cuts throught the maze of trees and shrubs and gives you the important information when planning what trees or shrubs to purchase for your zone. The book is very well laid out and easy to follow.

This is an excellent book for the beginner or even expert gardener. The book is full of pictures and is very informative. The historical information about the plants is also very interesting as well as the tips about pruning, planting, watering etc.. In particular this is an excellent book for those of us living in colder climates (zone 2 or 3) as many of the trees and shrubs described are well suited to those climates. This book has it all and will be and excellent reference for many years. You won't be disappointed.

I used this book a number years ago, for a landscaping project. I planted a large number of trees and shrubs, to enhance my yard. The information contained in the book was both accurate and helpful. The type of site required, the size of the plants, and the plants appearance, are required information for proper planning. This book definitely provided the needed instruction. There is also helpful information on planting, pruning, fertilising, and pest control. The reason for only four stars, is the lack of fruit tree information. I feel some guidelines on apple, pear, and a few other fruit trees, would have been a nice addition. Over all, I recommend this book to anyone planning on tree planting.

You can't go wrong with a Lois Hole book. I bought this book in helps to landscape our yard. The book sure helped make decisions about what type of tree or shrub would work in our yard and where. She explains the type of location (sunny, shady) and how big the shrub/tree will grow, so you can plan what it will look like in years to come and not be surprised that you bought a tree too big for your yard. With lots of photos and great inspiration.
