Excellent Potty Learning Tool!!,
By Elizabeth R Freeland (East Fallowfield, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Once Upon a Potty--Girl (Hardcover)
My husband and I have no clue as to how to teach potty training to our first child. So, we've spent much money on guides, books, videos, stories, etc. This book (and the video) have made a major break through. My daughter loves the story of Prudence and her potty! With her plethora of videos, she chooses this one to view, and wants to sit on the potty while watching it! Last night (which is why I decided to write a review), my daughter asked to use the potty, and she proceeded to poo. When she was all done, she proudly stood up and announced that she pooped on the potty just like Prudence! Finally we've made a connection!!

Got this book AGES ago for my older daughter, now almost 10. Well, my 18 month old daughter "discovered" it about a month ago - though she's not ready to start potty training just yet - she LOVES THIS BOOK! She asks us to read it at least 6-8 times a day, and when we aren't reading it to her, she looks through it on her own. She understands more and more what the whole issue is, and this book might be the "cause" of her potty training EARLY! How much does she love this book?? Two days ago, one of the pages fell out - and I can't figure out how to fix it - she has been upset and crying over the loss of this book since then - I have to get a new one (that's why I'm here!).

my 2 year old just didn't like the book. she didn't stay interested in it at all. it was not helpful for us. it had too many words to read - maybe if you had a older child but for my young one it's just too long

I purchased this book a few months ago and when my husband read it to our daughter (2yrs. old) for the first time, he asked me what made me purchase a book like this!? The wording was direct and to the point. Our daughter thought it was funny. Well we put it on the shelf for some time and then reintroduced it to my daughter a few months later. Now, SHE LOVES THIS BOOK! Every, single, night she begs for the "Potty Book!" This book has motivated my daughter to go to the potty more often. She knows this book so well she can finish the sentences herself!

This book was heaven sent with all 3 of our girls. They loved the humor of prudence trying to figure out what the potty chair was exactly! They range in age now from 7-3 and they still read this book. I am expecting our 4th daughter and I am buying a new copy this time since the other is worn out! I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to potty train their daughter.

Cute & Charming,

This book is adorable. Yes, it uses words like "wee wee," but you can simply substitute "your" words for those. And, honestly, at 2 or 3 how sophisticated do you expect your child to discuss her bodily functions? I think it's sweet, the illustration is wonderful. My daughter loves it. It explains body parts in a simple & suitable way. All in all, a very loving, cute, & charming book.

This book is terrible,

My daughter received this book on her 2nd birthday from a friend who has 2 children she has potty trained so my husband and I were hopeful that we would have the same success with this book. NO SUCH LUCK. 1st of all, the "wee wee" "poo poo" terminology seems a bit odd to us. 2nd of all, the potty looks like a flower pot or pitcher of some sort, not anything like the baby bjorn potty we bought. In fact, while reading the book to our child for the 1st time we got to the picture of the "poo poo" in the bowl, she got all excited and yelled "ice cream mommy". Lastly, the explanation of the genitals is way overboard for a child this age. We got the baby doll that wets, hopefully it'll give us better results.

My girls love this book. I bought it with the video when my first daughter was 1.5 to start introducing the idea to her. She loved it. We read it throughout the potty training. My 2.5 year old also loves this book and asks me to read it over and over. We are getting ready to start the potty training soon. Great pictures, simple idea, a classic.

What a terrible book!,

We were anxious to get all sorts of potty training books for my daughter and this was well known so we got it. I cannot express how much I dislike this book. The only way I can get through it is to read it in an English Accent to amuse myself. My daughter likes it ok but I just can't stand it. I have hidden it from her so I never have to read it again. The language is not accurate (wee wee and poo poo), repetitive (not in a good way) and the pictures don't accurately portray current potty seats at all. Run don't walk to find other books!

I was a little shocked at the choice of words and descriptions. I couldn't get past the third page. I would definitely read/see this book in person before I purchased it. I threw mine out.
