5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Found
I read about 4 different books and searched every web-site about pregnancy this is. This was the best I found. The week-by-week format is great, I knew what was actually happening to my baby every week, not just sometime during this month. The book also answered most of my questions. I think it is the best book out about pregnancy right now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was this really written by a qualified OB/GYN?
Did a qualified OB/GYN really write this book? The "Dads Tips" are like something from the 1950s, insulting to most Dads living in 2004, my husband and I just laughed at them. What really put me off the book was on page 258, when talking about Is It a Boy or Is It a Girl, Dr Curtis suggests, and I quote "a more reliable source (than an Ultrasound...

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book to read, Jun 22 2004

I loved this book. It was very useful in learning about my pregnancy. I read this book cover to cover. Each week it gave you more information with out flooding your mind with to much to soon. I liked how I was able to read how I was changing and the baby was growing each week. I recommend this book to eveyone. I am on my second pregnancy and I have continued to read this book through out this pregnancy as well. I started from the beginning and read one week at a time and It has helped me understand so much even in the second pregnancy.

I bought this book with my first pregnancy and I found it very easy to follow. The explainations are easy to follow and the book includes info for the father-to-be too. I love the week by week format, it's much easier to follow than month by month. I'm now expecting our 2nd child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Highly Reccommend, July 23 2006

This review is from: Your Pregnancy Week By Week 5th Edition (Paperback)
The greatest strength of this book is the week-by-week format. It outlines specific changes that are pretty close to exactly as predicted. We noticed many of the things and then read them that week, ie. phlegmyness, inability to travel more than an hour and dryness at night just to name a few. This book is very well balanced and it tends to focuses more on the positives of pregnancy and not the possible complications. This is the 5th Edition of this book with millions of copies sold. Overall it is a great help. I definitely recommend it to all expectant couples. These authors also wrote a number of supporting or complimentary books:
Bouncing Back From Your Pregnancy
Your Pregnancy Journal Week by Week
Your Pregnancy for the Father to Be
Your Pregnancy After 35
Your Pregnancy Questions and Answers
Your Pregnancy Every Woman's Guide
Your Baby's First Year Week by Week

1.0 out of 5 stars Was this really written by a qualified OB/GYN?, Jun 7 2004

This review is from: Your Pregnancy Week By Week 5th Edition (Paperback)
Did a qualified OB/GYN really write this book? The "Dads Tips" are like something from the 1950s, insulting to most Dads living in 2004, my husband and I just laughed at them. What really put me off the book was on page 258, when talking about Is It a Boy or Is It a Girl, Dr Curtis suggests, and I quote "a more reliable source (than an Ultrasound examination) might be a mother, mother-in-law, or someone who can look at you and tell by how you're carrying the baby if it is a boy or a girl"!!!!!I am sorry, but there is absolutely no accuracy in this method whatsoever, it is an old wives tale!. At that point I decided the best place for the book was in the trash can. Thank goodness this is my third pregnancy and I know better!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money, Jun 12 2004
By
This review is from: Your Pregnancy Week By Week 5th Edition (Paperback)
The information in this book you can easily access anywhere else, both on-line and in better written books. Some estimations of size of fetus, etc. are not accurate. Most importantly, the section on labor and delivery is right out of the 1960's. Frankly, the tone of this text is absolutely insulting. I think I can decide for myself whether I prefer to have an enema before delivery or have my pubic hair shaved, regardless of what a hospital's routine procedure may be. Dr. Glade's point of view is that the obstetrician and assisting nurses make the final decision on all matters, stating that "there are two patients to consider". Yes, and the one that is an adult is the one that will be making the decisions. Expectant and new mothers (and their partners) need to know they have a right be consulted on the delivery and care of their newborn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Week-by-week format is very appealing, April 25 2004
By
This review is from: Your Pregnancy Week By Week 5th Edition (Paperback)
My husband and I really enjoyed the week-by-week format of this book. We would flip open the book each Sunday night and read head to see what that week had in store for us and our baby. It became a very special ritual for us as a couple. Other books that also were helpful to us in sharing our pregnancy in this way were The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby -- 2nd edition (which also follows a week-by-week format); The Pregnancy Journal (which has info about your baby's development on a day-by-day basis); From Conception to Birth (which shows amazing photos about fetal development); and A Child is Born (another great guide to fetal development). We each also had our own favorite pregnancy books. My husband really enjoyed The Expectant Father and She's Having Baby while I really enjoyed The Mother of All Pregnancy Books and The Girlfriend's Guide. As you can see, books were a major budget item for us while I was pregnant, but we were lucky enough to have friends pass on some of these books second hand and I picked up some second hand books online, too. We had to purchase a few of the newer books (like The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby -- 2nd edition) brand new, however. Still, it was definitely worth it because knowing what was going on with our baby and my body really increased our enjoyment of pregnancy and helped us to feel more prepared for pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats the Rest!, April 22 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Pregnancy Week By Week 5th Edition (Paperback)
I am pregnant with my first baby and I received this book from a friend. I also recieved 5 other books, but this is the book I read the most. I love the pictures of how the baby is growing. It is a nerve wracking thing when you haven't heard a heart beat, had an US or felt it move, but to know how it might be developing makes it all a little more real. I like the coverage of possible tests you might have to take, as well as the ones you will have for sure.
Not everything can be classified into a particular week, but I felt that the other books that broke it down into a month or whole trimester! made it all too broad. I would read the same paragraph week after week and still be left needing knowledge. This format makes it a something new every week.
I will give this book to my next friend who finds herself pregnant! I think it should come with every positive pregnancy test!!!

I read this book cover to cover for both my first pregnancy and again 4 years later for my second pregnancy. I thought it was very informative. I especially liked the beginning of each week when it talked about the stages of development the baby was in.
