Relaxed learning,
This review is from: Considering the Horse: Tales of Problems Solved and Lessons Learned (Hardcover)
The title says it all. Mark Rashid writes in a style that keeps me reading and loving every minute. I learned alot about attitude, mostly, and also how one might deal with various horse related problems, but for those of you looking for a how to book, this ain't it. As the title says, these are tales, and very good tales, but more suggestions as to what you might do in a situation rather than "Do this and it will be right". It seems that Mr. Rashid wants us to realize that each horse is an individual and what works for one wont necessarily work for another, take each situation for itself and deal with that, always trying to see the "problem" from the horses point of view. I love reading Mark Rashid, you may not, depending on your point of view.

Mark Rashid did an *EXCELLENT* job of writing this book! His way was very intriguing, and you just find yourself GLUED. Instead of coming out and giving you instructions on HOW to fix problems, he tells you stories of HIM fixing different problems. Also, I like his approach and way of thinking. He tells you that his ways may not be the best ways, and they may not always work, so you just rely on the book for some tips. But, I really liked it and got into it, and at the end - I cried. I couldn't help myself, it was like *I* was there doing it. If you have some problems with your horse, are looking into different methods of problem fixing, or are just looking for some good horse stories. GET THIS BOOK!

I have started riding again and plan to get my own horse(s) in the next year or so. I have collected several different books on horse care, horse problems, etc. This book was great. From the first few pages I was hooked and read it cover to cover. Most horse books that I've gotten I have only scanned the pages. This book is great because it tells stories about particular horses, their problems, and how the problems were overcome, all by taking the time to "consider" how the horse feels about a situation. This book was really great reading, and I would suggest it for any horse lover.

It just doesn't get any better-entertaining,packed with good information, and well written. If it doesn't help you be a better horseman it certainly ought to help you be a better human being. It was a joy to read- so as soon as I finished it I couldn't wait to get the other two books(which are just as good) His little stories are not only fun to read but by telling you the way he does it all makes sence. I can't remember when I've been so excited about one particular writter. Good, helpful stuff!

This is an excellent book which addresses several common horse problems, what causes them, and how to cure them - but does so in a story format. Rather than present a "how-to" manual the author tells the stories of various horses he's worked with, what he did, why, and what worked and didn't. The stories are so well told I think even non horse owners who like horses would enjoy them. The training techniques are all about communication rather than domination. I highly recommend it.

At first I wasn't so sure about a book that instructs in "story" form however, Mark Rashid does a nice job and the reading is enjoyable. What I like about this book is that he actually gives you examples of real life situations and what worked for him in those instances. I have all of his books. This one is my favorite and has a lot of "problem" horse potential cures. As usual, the problems all came from the owners but that is nothing new in the horse world! Good book, buy it.

A 'must read' if you care about your horse,

This book is easy to read and is one of those rare books that can actually entertain and teach you at the same time. It is written in short story format. Mr. Rashid covers various problems common to horse owners, with more than one way to approach each problem depending on the possible cause. It is organized so as to be an easy reference if you need a refresher on a particular problem. I would also add that the artwork in this book, done by Mr. Ron Ball, is in itself worth the price of the book.

I love this book! I bought it, and the rest of the Mark Rashid books, hoping to learn to get inside the horse's head. Growing up, I had always been around horses the I "knew" and had a good idea of what they would or wouldn't do. Now, as an adult, I am starting over and purchasing horses that I don't "know". I have gained so much insight about horses that I am now much more confident around these new horses. At first, I was unsure about the novel format of this book versus a book with text book format. I quickly changed my mind once I started reading. I could only put the book down when my eyes would no longer stay open! I would find myself laughing (sometimes hysterically) and other times saying "AH, HA! That's what is going on!" This book is definately a MUST read. I am passing it on to my young daughters to start reading.

This book as well as all of Mark Rashid's is a MUST read for anyone involved with horses. He helps us connect to their spirit instead on only viewing them as machines for our service.I recommed his work often to help my clients their horses as the special gifts they are. Prudence Heaney |
