5.0 out of 5 stars Best Data Quality Book (repost), Jan 16 2004
By
Ralph Kimball (Boulder Creek, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Data Quality: The Accuracy Dimension (Paperback)
This book is the clearest, most practical book on data profiling and data quality that I have seen. Jack breaks down data quality issues into specific categories, and leaves you with a vision of what to do if you are building a data warehouse. His practical experience shows through very clearly and he talks to the IT developer (the reader) very effectively.

This book is on my very short list of essential reading for data warehouse professionals.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bible on data profiling, July 31 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Data Quality: The Accuracy Dimension (Paperback)
The bible on data profiling to address accuracy issues from the inside out (metadata on rows, columns and tables) in contrast to the traditional and passive approaches that are based on the outside in (customer complaints, returned merchandises and the likes).

In his book, Olson also explains why stagnant data and data in motion are targets for quality issues. Finally, I enjoyed the nuances on accuracy between Olson and Michael H Brackett's book - Data Resource Quality. Orthogonal approaches and sound logic in both cases.
