5.0 out of 5 stars A road map for taking a trip through the seasons.
"Mind, Body, Spirit" is a book that can be many things; depends on the reader. As a minimum it is a blue print for a seasonal approach to weight training to acheive peak physical condition. This is a book for the near novice, intermediate, advanced body builder or anyone with an inquisitive mind about the world of body building and the art of body...

1.0 out of 5 stars Never Mind the Poetry Frank!
Another opus from Frank Zane, who finds reasons to "soften" the bodybuilders image. This has some good, solid advice for the bodybuilder, but having said that, it's not the best book on the subject. 1.0 out of 5 stars Never Mind the Poetry Frank!, Jan 19 2004

This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
Another opus from Frank Zane, who finds reasons to "soften" the bodybuilders image. This has some good, solid advice for the bodybuilder, but having said that, it's not the best book on the subject. The problem with this mix of metaphysical philosophy, poetry and "airy fairy" garbage is that you have to muddle through all the nonsense to get to the building muscle parts... it also has NOTHING to do with building self confidence in the bodybuilder.. which is one reason so many of us got serious in the sport of bodybuildng to begin with. After reading this book I felt like I had to apologize for being buffed. Save your money!

This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
ONE THING IS FOR SURE.
DONT BUY IT IF UR LOOKING FOR DEFINITION LIKE FRANK ZANE HAS.I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED FROM BUYING THIS BOOK.
IF I WAS NOT A GUY WHO TRAINS FOR 2 & 1/2 YEARS SERIOUSLY IN GYMS I WOULD SAY THAT THIS BOOK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BODYBUILDING IN PRACTISE.I CANT FIND ANY HELP IN TRANSFORMING MY BODY AND REDUCE MY BODY FAT FROM ZANE 'S POEMS.
THAT 'S THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS BOOK AND I WANT TO HELP OTHER BUYERS NOT TO SPEND MONEY ON THIS BOOK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Metaphysical Physical Training, May 2 2002
This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
Okay, I admit it, since taking up meditation almost a decade ago I tend to view everything in Life through a Spiritual slant. And yet I am heavily into bodybuilding, as well. No, I am not some overbulked dude that goes into the gym just to impress everyone else, I go into the gym to transform...to transcend...not just my physical self, but my mental, emotional, and spiritual self, as well. This book is a book that I keep with my books on spirituality. It is a book I refer to often for exercise routines as well as for inspiration. It is a book that got me from looking at the gym as just a "sweat lodge" for the ego, to a "Temple of Transformation". Frank does a beautiful job of putting himself down on paper. His poetry is simple...sometimes laughable...sometimes deep...but it's his and that's what makes it great. He is willing to be who he is. Are you? Am I? Are we really willing to just stop going to the gym and using the barbells and dumbells and the cables like we are at war with them and instead use them as tools to enhance the quality of our life...not just physically but spiritually? As it says in the Bible, "Now is the accepted time..." Now is the time, my bodybuilding friends, to realize with real eyes that you are more than a body...you are also a soul. Buy this book. It's a beautiful find!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Feminization of a Mans Sport, April 30 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
Why do some bodybuilders somehow think they have to soften their musculature with softening their masculine features, growing long flowing hair, wearing baggy clothes, and shaving all the masculine hair from their faces and bodies.... okay, that is bad enough, but now when you start talking about how bodybuilding is some kind of "energy"... please, Mr. Zane... build your muscles with the iron in the gym... make those plates slap together, grunt and thank God and be proud you are a man! If you want philosophy with your bodybuilding, then get a copy of "BROTHER IRON, SISTER STEEL" by Dave Draper... a terrific book that makes sense and allows bodybuilders to feel good about all their testosterone and makes no excuses or apologies for being a muscular male with his share of hormones.

1.0 out of 5 stars Zane Attempt at Bodybuilding, April 6 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
Frank was a legend in the 70s... lean, yet powerfully built, with good looks and a physique that wouldn't quit... but in he did it with hard, routine, monotonous work in the gym and a "don't quit" attitude. This is 2001, and though the tried and true methods still work just fine, there are 1000 other books that will have these same routines listed and with better explainations and illustrations. PLUS we won't have all the Zane "philosophy" which is all just a lot of watererd down new age blabbering. If you are a bodybuilder with a "get tough-get big" attitude, this mamby pamby whimpering will drive you nuts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, Sep 7 2000
By
This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
It's unfortunate that a former Mr. Olympia and three time Mr Universe could do no better in writing a book. Especially those of us who know Zanes skills.Clearly just a attempt to exploit the naivette of bodybuilding fans who will buy anything written by a name bodybuilder.Don't waste your money on this.

1.0 out of 5 stars not inspiring, Jan 9 2000
This review is from: Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit (Paperback)
Well, I certainly found almost no useful information in this book. Zanes attempts at poetry are agonizing to read through, and page after page of the sets and reps he does day after day becomes monotonous real fast. I'm sorry to hear about his Mom's passing--especially in a book about bodybuilding. Almost no tips, tricks, just a recount of a year of his life, like what he had for lunch on a given day. Don't waste your money.

This is a book for the near novice, intermediate, advanced body builder or anyone with an inquisitive mind about the world of body building and the art of body transformation. To actually take what this book gives will vault one physically far above the gym mainstream. This accomplishment will likely come in a very solitary way for that is the nature of the discipline; there will be time during the journey to conduct self interviews which is the bonus maybe intended by this book as you dwell upon Zane's philosophic offerings.... . Regardless, a champion reflects on these pages what works if you let it.

This book is "one of a kind". No where else have I found a book that goes into the day to day routine of a professional body builder. You can see his workout day by day. Furthermore, I found it to be very motivating and energizing. I highly suggest that any one how works out, buy this book!
