5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the 6 meeting books!...
I was looking around for a good book when I found this book. I gave it a read and I liked it a lot! It tells how Tanis and Flint met and the relationship growing between Laurana and Tanis. It explains why Tanis despises the Qualinesti and it tells how good Flint was at metalsmithing before he retired.
It is a good mix of fantasy and mystery. I'm proud to say it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but it had a few flaws and a bad climax.
... This book is a real pageturner. I couldn't wait to finally get to a book with some of the Heroes of the Lance. Flint and Tanis have a great relationship. I love reading their interactions. My favorite scenes are of Tanis and Laurana. I know I am a guy, but I do like romance in books! Good story throughout, even though you know who the killer is early on, unless you...

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, Mar 30 2003
This review is from: Kindred Spirits: The Meetings Sextet, Volume I (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book in the Meetings Sextet and occurs prior to Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Flint Fireforge happily settled in the elven land of Qualinost - who would ever believe this? He meets the young half-elf Tanis, and this is where their life-long friendship begins. This is also the start of the collaborative work of the companions of the Chronicles series, and tells part of the story of Flint and Tanis' younger years. I would recommend this book to anyone who really enjoyed the main characters in the Chronicles. The story shares some insights into these two notorious characters.

My favorite scenes are of Tanis and Laurana. I know I am a guy, but I do like romance in books! Good story throughout, even though you know who the killer is early on, unless you were a Basketball player from the University of Arkansas. The big problems I did have were that the relationship of Tanis and Laurana is left hanging. I wanted one more scene at the end. The worst part of this book which made me drop it one star is the fact that the ending is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to Scooby Doo. It's really bad. I had all this expectation and it was ruined. Too bad because this could have been a good book.

It is a good mix of fantasy and mystery. I'm proud to say it figured out who the real murderer was before they tell you by figuring out motives and taking in clues. But it isn't easy! (in other words it is a good read for mystery fans)
I've read 3 of the other meetings books and am working on the other 2, But this by far is the best one of the 6. If your getting any of the meetings Sextet series don't you dare forget to get this one. This is really good. I can't believe a paleontologist and a teacher of agricultural journalism wrote this. (most other books seem to be written by people who spend a lot of their time writing...)

The Meetings Sextet's have not been what I expected at all. I was really disappointed in the series. Although I will say that it gives you a birds eye view of the humble beginnings of our favorite Heroes and Villans of the War of the Lance, Flint, Sturm, Caramon, et. al. I rated it lowly due to the fact that the stories put me to sleep, rather than keep me in good attention. If you want to know more about the characters it is a must read, if you are not interested do not pick up on the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!, May 21 2002
This review is from: Kindred Spirits: The Meetings Sextet, Volume I (Mass Market Paperback)
First off, let me say that the synopsis mentioned above isn't exactly correct. Second off, keep in mind that this *is* a mystery-type novel. Very well done, too might I add, lol. The story of how Tanis and Flint (he's as grumpy as ever!)came together is told here, alas evil is afoot. Someone is killing off elves, and circumstances are just right for Tanis to be accused. Flint has to find evidence of Tanis' innocence or he (Tanis) will be banished... a fate worse than death for elves...

This story also follows many childhood years of Gilthanis, Porthios, and Laurana... touches on the love exsisting (or not) between Tanis and Laurana. Many well written clues are given in the novel, and yet (for DL fans) it's easy enough to get so engrossed in the tale that you miss them until the killer is revealed! Once I read who it was, I slapped my forehead and grumbled to myself that I should've known ;) The suspects that are created through the writing are plenty... nearly everyone...

Only one complaint though... the final battle was too short, too conveniant, too 'of all the luck'... but this setback doesn't really cut into the enjoyabilty of the novel.

Kindred Spirits is an excellent book. The storyline is rich and well thought out. The original Dragonlance characters Flint and Tanis are very compatable as friends. My only complaint is that it is very elf biased which can get very boring (Especially with elven customs).

I found this book very entertaining. Probably one of the more better books in the dragonlance sage, other than the ones written by W&H. It was a good read, complete with humor, intrigue, and action. The book went into the life of Flint Fireforge before meeting the half-elf, Tanis. Upon meeting, the two grew to be quick friends. But when Tanis is accused of murder, Flint has to help him get clear. I felt that the book was good. While it didnt have the most action in he world, it was still a nice read. The only thing i didnt like in this book was the relationship between Tanis and Laurana. But that is another story. Anyway, i recommend it. Buy it, Read it, Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Flint or Tanis fans, Jun 7 2001

This review is from: Kindred Spirits: The Meetings Sextet, Volume I (Mass Market Paperback)
It was great to find out about the past of these two after reading the Chronicles, etc. I'd suggest reading them first before this, even though this takes place before, it is a better read knowing what happens to Tanis and Flint in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant reading, April 1 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Kindred Spirits: The Meetings Sextet, Volume I (Mass Market Paperback)
Nicely written, although there were some parts where the flow of the story were simply awkward or jerky. However, the writers were true to the personalities of the characters, and also managed to bring out the true friendship between Flint and Tanis. Altogether, a pleasantly written story about the harsh prejudice Tanis must endure from his elven side before the true meaning of friendship brings him peace and freedom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Dragonlance background, Mar 7 2000
This review is from: Kindred Spirits: The Meetings Sextet, Volume I (Mass Market Paperback)
For all fans of the Heros of the Lance, this book is a must read. It delves into the birth and childhood of Tanis Half-Elven. Accentuating on the intrigue and politics of the Qualinesti Elves. It goes into great detail on how and why Flint Fireforge and Tanis became friends, and also gives details as to the events that lead to Tanis' mixed emotions about his homeland that was brought up in the Other dragonlance books. Even to the non-DL reader, this book is a real page turner, with action and magic and politics and murder. I highly reccommend.
