A Must-Have on Lean,
By GLEN (Vancouver, BC.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lean Production Simplified, Second Edition: A Plain-Language Guide to the World's Most Powerful Production System (Paperback)
Similar to "Lean for Dummies" -- this book lays out the basics of Lean beautifully. Though not as academic as other books on this subject, if I had to choose only one book on the subject then this would be it (and may explain why it commands a higher price-point than other books). A very good explanation of Lean principles and practices across a wide spectrum, this book will provide the reader with a solid understanding of Lean. A relatively easy read, the illustrations found in the book allow for a quick grasp of the topic and should be considered a must-read for anyone who wants learn the ways of Lean.

This really is a "plain-language" explanation. I am certified in Lean but this was a nice background read as to how it was developed and the concepts behind the application. This book will not tell you how to conduct lean improvement in a step-by-step way, but it is still really helpful as a resource if this is what you are trying to do. Much more interesting and easier to understand than other Lean books. I would recommend this to others.

This is a very good introductory book. All components of lean manufacturing system have been explained. More importantly, the language is very simple and easy to understand. The sample templates are great. One aspect, I would like to see is the cost concept. Particularly, how an established factory can be transformed to lean system with respect to cell concept and layout change. The author has written about the cost benefit of lean system, however, no supporting evidence has been provided. But overall, this book is great.
