Well written, easy to follow resource book that I highly recommend. Dunnewold provides a learning tool that encourages experimentation through clear and concise instructions on a large number of techniques suitable for making art cloth. The book concludes with a series of projects that provide an excellent starting point for experimentation. This book is an essential in the studio.

Terrific book and I've taken 4 of her classes. She keeps on coming up with ideas--enough for another book or two. This is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in surface design on fabric.

Absolutely wonderful book with techniques and design elements to help any artist or textile lover create new and exciting cloth! Shows you how to create depth and interest/movement. Have just finished a 5 day workshop with Jane and between the book & the workkshop am bursting with new ideas...

I am disturbed by this comment. I have read the book and have participated in the seminar in San Antonio. Jane Dunnewold is an excellent designer! It seems like the reader/viewer above has no idea about what design really is!
He/she didn't even have the guts to finish the comment, or display their name. Hardly worth noticing since the book already got 4 1/2 stars from knowledgeable artists anyway ;-)

Jane Dunnewold does an excellent job of creating an environment of experimentation and education. Her examples and descriptions of techniques inspire the readers to stretch their imaginations and use the basics of textile design to create their own imaginative works of art and soar. This is a book that travels with me from studio to bed to work in the car and everywhere in between as it stimulates ideas to take back to the studio. I love it. It's my number one resource for textile design and I'm an avid collector of textile design resources.

I read this book from cover to cover--could not put it down! It has some of the BEST IDEAS for combining techniques and shows OUTSTANDING EXAMPLES of each technique. Everything is explained so clearly and the author is so encouraging that I didn't feel intimidated at all. In fact, my friend and I are getting together for a project, we just haven't decided yet what technique(s) to try first. A MUST for any textile artist.

This book has clear and complete instructions for nearly every technique of coloring fabric - dyeing, stamping, stenciling, silk screening, bleach discharge, etc. It's a good source of instructions for bleach discharge, and it has some of the most beautiful examples of combinations of several techniques, for inspiration. This book can be used by a beginner, but it has an immense amount to offer to a more advanced fabric artist.

This is a wonderful book - it is both inspirational and informative. The examples of the author's work are beautiful and make you want to begin making your own fabrics at once! The how to information is detailed and very helpful. Lots of good information on specific products and manufacturers is provided.
