I'm not hopeless after all!,
By Jennifer L Olomon (Hewitt, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hair: A Book of Braiding and Styles (Spiral-bound)
Until this book, I pretty well figured that either I was hopeless at braiding, or that maybe my hair was just fussy, or both. But the day I got this braid, I was able to master most of the braids featured! It shows exactly how to hold your hair while you do it (no more "if I only I had another hand" moments). I also love the spiral binding. Now, I can do beautiful hairstyles with ease.

This book is filled with tons of beautiful, easy-to-do hairstyles. Even if you've never done a basic braid in your life, the step-by-step instructions and clear drawings will show you how to do a wide variety of styles, from the simple basic braid up to the mega-challenging French rope. The book features about 50 cool styles, for all lengths and types of hair, and all occasions, from casual to formal. The book is geared toward teens and young adults, but even people older or younger will probably enjoy trying out the styles in this book.As an added bonus, the book comes with 3 beautiful scrunchies, and is spiral-bound so you can lay it flat while doing the styles in this book. The instructions are so detailed that complicated styles like the herringbone, french braids, and the french rope feature seperate pages showing you even how to position your hands while doing the style! This book is the perfect guide for anyone who enjoys trying out new styles on their hair, even if they're not hairstyling experts. Highly recommended! (For a book with styles for younger children, I would recommend reading "Braids and Bows", also written by Anne Akers Johnson)

I really like this book! I had never seen a good book about hair styles before I found this on Amazon. It has a lots of nice hair styles and I've finally learned how to do a french braid on myself, and lots of other nice styles. My younger sisters borrowed this from me, and also found some good ideas for their hair. A nice gift for yourself or a friend! Nice illustrations and easy-to-follow instructions, I've never seen so good step-by-step instructions for making nice braids and styles. The only complaint I have is that the book is made to hold a box on the bottom - that doesn't even stick! and that makes it impossible to put in the book shelf, so the first thing I did was to cut it of with a pair of scissors. It would have been nice with a few more hair styles, you just want more and more...

Best Book of Braids and Updos!,

Part of the Klutz series of books and originally intended for older children and young teens, Hair has gained a following among long-haired women of all ages because it is simply the best book out there for attractive long hair styles. When I grew my hair out after many years of wearing it short, I went looking for a nice book of hairstyles for long hair. I looked everywhere I could think of with little success -until I found Hair in a bookstore's children's section. Don't be put off by the Klutz label or the fact that there is a box of ugly hair accessories physically attached to this book. It provides excellent illustrations and easy-to-understand directions for 32 hairstyles, by my count. The styles are for medium length to long hair. Some styles would be better suited for thinner hair and some for thick. The illustrations and directions are given for doing the hairstyles on yourself, not on someone else. If you are doing someone else's hair, some adjustment can be made. Covered in the book are various types of twists and rolls, tucks and buns, braids, French braids, inverse French braids (cornrows), herringbones, and ropes. There are casual styles, styles suited to work, and many that could be quite formal. Page layouts are attractive and well-designed. The book is spiral-bound so it will lie flat while you are fiddling with your hair. Highly recommended for long-haired girls and women, ages about 10 and up. Makes a great gift! There is a cardboard protrusion on the bottom of this book to which the box of accessories is adhered. This prevents the book from being stood up on a book shelf. You can cut it off with a razor blade and a ruler. Then your book will sit perfectly on your shelf.

Good Book for Teens and Older,

I enjoyed learning to do the styles in this book, and the simple, straightforward instructions help anyone trying to learn a new style. I also like the organization of the book- how it starts out with basic styles, and then moves on to harder ones. Some of the styles might be too difficult for younger kids, but most of them are relatively easy for the older set to learn. (Note: If you have younger kids that are interested in this book, I would recommend "Braids and Bows", also by Anne Akers Johnson, because it has styles that are a bit easier to do.)

Nice book!!! I've found this to be a great book for Braids and other pretty hair styles. Each style I've tried came out just like the Beautiful picture and the directions were very easy to follow too. This is a wonderful book I'd recommend to anyone.

I gave this book to my daughter's preschool teacher and she loved it. This is my 2nd purchase, to replace the one I gave her. I've been able to do the simpler ones so far. The diagrams are very explicit and I can now do fancy hairstyles instead of just pony tails.

I couldn't braid my hair at all before reading this book. Now , with lots of practice, I can do a nice job of braiding my hair and I can't wait for my hair to grow longer so that I can try more of the styles. The only thing I didn't like was the odd shape of the book.

Prior to this book I couldn't even make a basic braid turn out nice. Now I'm french braiding my own hair. This book also has a couple of useful styles for the "growing out" phase. If you dream of braiding your own hair but just don't know where to begin, this book is a great start!!
