Equal Shmequal Equals Wonderful!, Jun 11 2011

I used Equal Shmequal in my grade 2/3 class to introduce the concept in algebra that both sides have to be equal. The kids really understood that there can be a different amount of numbers on either side of an equals sign as long as the total value is the same on either side. It also was a neat way to tie in the simple machines unit that we did in science by showing that the fulcrum on the see-saw (lever) is like the equal sign when the see-saw is balanced.
