5.0 out of 5 stars The PTSD Workbook
This is a good book that is challenging and rewarding for PTSDers to read and work through. The cautions and reminders to take care of oneself while working through the exercises are helpful. There is lots of information presented about PTSD in a very readable fashion. If a survivor of trauma had to work through those experiences and the resulting symptoms of PTSD...

3.0 out of 5 stars Can be a useful resource, but reinforces simplistic view that PTSD is rampant
PTSD is one of the principle psychological disorders in fashion these days: widely applied by professionals, semi-professionals, and patients.

The DSM-IV diagnosis of PTSD is being developed so still very general, so adds to the problem of widespread overdiagnosis. This workbook, while having useful elements, generally adds to that problem.

This is a good book that is challenging and rewarding for PTSDers to read and work through. The cautions and reminders to take care of oneself while working through the exercises are helpful. There is lots of information presented about PTSD in a very readable fashion. If a survivor of trauma had to work through those experiences and the resulting symptoms of PTSD alone, this is definitely a good place to start. I like to use some of the exercises with my teenage clients who are dealing with trauma-related symptoms.

I am presently in Private Practice and have been faced, recently, with a number of clients who are dealing with PTSD. I have found this workbook to be a wonderful tool for my clients to work through in conjunction with their counselling sessions. They have reported it to be really useful in helping them understand what they are experiencing and to normalize those feelings, both physical and emotional. When used in conjuction with professional counselling, I have found that it has expedited the healing process. I recommend it as long as a professional counsellor or psychotherapist is working through it with the person experiencing PTSD. It is a wonderful tool for a professional to have in their arsenal.

I really love the way that this book is set up with a lot of good information and simple homework type assignments that I have been working through. Some on my own and some with my therapist. A definite must buy.

At the extreme, adults who were spanked a few times as children claim they have "childhood PTSD" and use their "condition" as an excuse for their dysfunctional behaviours, personality issues, addictions, underachievement, etc.

The appeal is a simply explaination and professional VICTIMHOOD...

The tragedy is that there ARE real cases of traumic disorders, but they are FAR rarer than the current practice and psychological/self-help fashion suggests.
