Okay - you like music - especially music that shows off your new system.

Okay - hit the buy this now button and wait five days for the absolutely BEST musical concert DVD on the market today.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pullover is better!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pullover is better!, Mar 11 2004

After reading the reviews about "Live at the Beacon" I assumed that I was missing the better show, having already purchased "Pullover". WRONG! Pullover is superior in all respects; presentation, sound, and picture. Made me question just what those "Beacon" fanatics were listening to and looking at. JT was much, much more relaxed in Pullover and as another reviewer said "He was definitely having more fun." I sat through the whole Pullover concert (enjoying every minute...) but found myself using the "skip" button while viewing Beacon. You just need to purchase Pullover....you won't be missing anything by passing on "Beacon".

James Taylor sings all his hits in crystal clear Dolby Digital 5.1, and the audio engineering on this DVD is SUPERB. If you want to show off a system's surround capabilities - this IS the DVD to do so.

It makes you feel like you're sitting in the fourth row, center for this Beacon Theater concert, and everything is working perfectly. The artist, his backup singers, the band, and the audience all participating like this was THE concert of their lives.

And I bet you'll find yourself standing up and applauding your television screen when Track 11 - Shower the People - is finished. James Taylor allows legendary backup singer Arnold McCuller to shine with his overlay during the last third of the song, and the crowd goes absolutely WILD at the talent of this man who has made a career of singing behind the scenes.

Is this DVD worth spending under $20 on?

Absolutely. You'll watch it again and again....and AGAIN!

Man, is this guy boring!
I bought this dvd for all the great reviews, but was very disappointed. My mind dwelled off after two songs, and at number four I was doing something else. Sorry folks!

This is not the best James Taylor video concert I've ever seen. It's OK, but there's a lot of fluff to skip through.

Great audio & video. One of the better DVD's on the market. 5.1 sounds great, second only to Eagles Hell Freezes over in my collection. Can't miss for any soft rock fan.

This review is from: James Taylor: Live At The Beacon Theatre (DVD)
Sweet Baby James is back, this time with another terrific concert performance of his ever-growing catalogue of unforgettable songs. While he is easily one of the most successful of all of the record selling artists of the last thirty years, he is also one of the hardest working live performers in the business, and is in perpetual demand throughout the country, indeed, the world, as a first class draw for huge crowds. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing him sing live in decades, but always anticipate his new record releases and DVDs such as these in order to stay in touch with this most singular talent. Like the late John Denver, Taylor approaches the stage with enthusiasm and a charismatic charm that is simply hard for me to resist. Needless to say, I succumbed to the temptations herein pretty quickly.

Included here are many works not previously available on DVD, all delivered with the typical flawless Taylor rendition. Of course, the panoply of perpetual favorite favorites like "Fire And Rain", "Copperline", "Everyday", "You've Got A Friend", and "Sweet Baby James" are all here, as are many others, for a total of some two dozen songs or so. Old JT is aging, as are we all, but he has mellowed even more over the years, and by prevailing over his own demons and continuing to do what he does like no one else can, has once again offered us a gift that I urge you to go out and grab for your very own. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Great music DVD - a must for all music DVD collections, Jan 15 2004

A single word - fabulous! James Taylor is one of favorite singer/songwriters who greatly influenced my early musical upbringing...this DVD is such a priceless gem that warms your heart with its tremendous sound, even though it wasn't in DTS, and the awesome display of lights and colors, even though it wasn't widescreen...this DVD is a definite must buy for all music fans whether or not you are a Taylor fan...JT's voice is such a once-in-a-lifetime piece of Americana that we are all lucky that our generation has witnessed such magical performances. This is one DVD that everyone can watch, young and old alike...his music is a celebration of emotions and the worthy musicians backing him were equally impressive...the sound and the video are all first rate...

5.0 out of 5 stars This guy's music is timeless..., Dec 4 2003
By
This review is from: James Taylor: Live At The Beacon Theatre (DVD)
Mr. Taylor is a troubadour of the ages. He and the artists he assembled for this production are nothing short of incredible as they hit every note with grace and craftsmanship. The production quality approaches that of The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DVD, however, I still feel the Eagles hold the honor of producing the benchmark DVD to measure all other concert DVD videos by. Nevertheless, this concert is a close second and will captivate any JT fan. "Shower the People" actually brought a tear to my eye, sooo sweet! The sound quality of the DTS is exemplary and the DD 5.1 holds its own. The camera work is right on the mark and the quality of the video is crystal clear. Plug this DVD in and experience the Beacon Theater's warm ambiance from the front row and beyond. I've played this DVD dozens of times and look forward to the next.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better music DVD's out there, Dec 3 2003
By
This review is from: James Taylor: Live At The Beacon Theatre (DVD)
Arguably the better of the two DVD's available for James Taylor, "Live at Beaconsfield" is an impressive showcase of JT's career. It has a high re-watch factor, and both soundtracks (PCM or 5.1) are worth a listen. If you have a good surround sound system, you will honestly feel like you are there. It's that good!

There are over 20 songs to watch and listen, which make it worth every penny. A music DVD that is a must in your collection. Add the impressive picture sharpness, and you have a real winner.
