Great book with easy to follow directions. So many cats I had a hard time deciding which one to do first. When completed they really do look like cats I have known and they make great gifts for fellow cat lovers. I am planning on working my way through the book.

I've been working with these patterns for a few weeks now and have come to the conclusion that they must be extensively adapted to look realistic. I would never use thread for whiskers, when nylon beading cord is stiffer and looks much more whisker-like. One of the strangest things about these cats is they don't have mouths! I have found that facial expression is crucial in creating a realistic "stuffy", and what is a cat without its distinctive feline mouth with the enigmatic curved-up corners? Fortunately it's fairly easy to embroider on a mouth, but why were they left off in the first place? It makes the cats look a little too rodent-like. I was disappointed that the 16 "breeds" are mostly just different colors, but obviously there are limits, i.e. creating a longhaired cat's coat with yarn. The Knit Your Own Dog idea was popular mainly because you could knit a huge variety of very different sizes, shapes and colors of dogs. But in many ways, a cat is a cat is a cat. Attempts to create a pattern for a hairless cat produced something quite ugly, and the Maine Coon did not resemble anything so much as a dustmop. Having said all that, I am hard at work attempting to knit Oscar, my granddaughter's cat, for her birthday. If the pieces all go together as planned, it should be a pretty fair likeness. It's pretty cool to knit the family cat, though I am not sure how many of the others I'm going to try. Too bad I don't like dogs.

I love this book and I love animals, so now i can create cute little cats too. My kids love the idea of picking out the one they love and watching me create it for them. Thanks to Sally Muir for her great ideas. Thanks for the perfect price and fast delivery.
