3.0 out of 5 stars A great book for an absolute beginner
I have done both the original Body-For-Life, and Body-For-Life for Women programs.
In terms of diet, BFL for women is by far superior. The portion sizes are a lot more detailed, and the diet itself is much more specific. A major diference with the BFL for women diet is that you stay away from starchy carbs after 2pm. This is a VERY EFFECTIVE diet element, but...

This is a VERY EFFECTIVE diet element, but often I find it hard to stick to. Instead of the BFL free day, the women's program allows you to "cheat in moderation" every day.
The excersize program is designed for absolute beginners. It's designed for you to incorporate into your own life, rather than try to stick to a schedule. This is ideal for beginners, or people who tend to go hard initially, and lose momentum over time. For those who want a challenge, or who are looking for results similar to those of the women in the photos on the inside cover, go with the original BFL program.
There is also a lot of inspirational content that is definitely worth the read.
My personal results:
BFL-- lost 42 lbs of fat, gained 5 lbs of muscle
BFL for women--lost 12 lbs of fat, gained 2 lbs of muscle
combining BFL workout plan with BFL for women diet--lost 25 lbs of fat, gained 5 lbs of muscle.

I started out with BFL when I weighed in at 221lbs. Now, I'm down to 145. I suggest combining the diet and excersize from the 2 programs. Allthough I had the most dramatic results with the original BFL program, the combination of the two allowed me to lose the last 20 lbs to reach my goal (the hardest to lose!). I had a lot more to lose when I started out, and it came off with less effort. I am now at 18% body fat, and using some of the tips from BFL for women to maintain my weight.

It is pointless to try to win the weight loss game without understanding how our minds, our feelings, and our daily life all affect our bodies. This book not only helps you to loose weight but at the same time, to increase your energy and stress resilience while being satisfied with your healthy life. The Author does not offer any of the fad diets. I like the fact that she offers 'smart fats, carbs and proteins'. Dr. Weiss in his book 'The Backsmart Fitness Plan' (I highly recommend this book to everyone!) is also brief on the diet area, but similar as Dr. Peeke, he provides the a holistic approach to working your entire body(Over 100 Movements) for a healthy outcome that brings about great results without causing injuries and what and how to eat, breathe, sleep, exercise, think, and much more. Once you understand the rules, and follow them the results are just a natural outcome of the new life style that you adopt.

Will "Body for Life for Women" be as successful as the original "Body for Life" by Bill Philips? At the moment we don't know, but there are a few aspects of the book that put it on a good path to a great success.

First of all I like the author's holistic approach. It is pointless to try to win the weight loss game without understanding how our minds, our feelings, our thoughts, and our daily life all affect our bodies. The Mind-Mouth-Muscle template is a great thing. It not only helps you to loose weight (or "remove it," as the author names it) but at the same time, to increase your energy and stress resilience while being satisfied with your healthy life.

Ms. Peeke does not offer any of the fad diets. I like the fact that she offers "smart fats, carbs and proteins". She is short on providing good, tasty recipes but it is understandable. You cannot be a physician, nutritionist, a workout specialist, and a chef at the same time... Once you understand the rules, and follow them the results are just a natural outcome of the new life style that you adopt. There is really no need for "cooking instructions". Another book that I highly recommend for anyone concerned with their body and thier health is "Can We Live 150"
