5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of Fresh Air!, Sep 20 2006

I love this book! I don't normally buy books that haven't been reviewed, but I'm glad I picked this up! It's written by two pediatricians (moms) who speak in everyday language and admit to their personal choices and mistakes. I wanted a book that answered everyday questions about taking care of a new baby, everything from sleeping, to feeding to bathing, illness and in between. There are so many little tricks, that will make your life a little easier. For those that have never had a baby, this book lets you feel a little more prepared for when baby makes an appearance. One of the best things, is that the book is guilt free. Many books cover controvercial topics from one angle, and if you don't do as they say, you're a bad parent. Not this one. Topics, such as feeding are covered from breast-feeding to bottles and combinations in between. Pros and cons of each are discussed, resulting in a guilt-free decision. My husband is reading the book too, and that's great because I won't have to "teach" him how to do things by looking over his shoulder. He might do things differently, but being armed with the same info, he'll be able to figure things out and get the job done!

I used to buy "Happiest Baby on the Block" as a shower gift, and although it is still a great book, I will be buying "Heading home with Newborn" from now on because it covers more, is a great reference and is filled with a ton of valuable information! It's not an extremely long book, and doesn't weigh a ton, but it certainly covers everything that a new mom needs. Maybe when your child is older, you'll want another book, but in the first few months, this book is a gem!

This review is from: Heading Home with Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality (Paperback)
A great book that helps first time parents with crucial questions about your newborn. The advice is honest, simple and does not sugar coat things. It's realistic and practical and helps explain the ins and outs of a newborn and what to expect. Gives advice about care for baby, care for self and what to expect in those first few weeks. Additionally the authors discuss safety and planning ahead for outings, travel and buying etc. Would recommend!
