A One-Sitting Read
If you're into one-liners, unforgettable stories, and laughing out loud while you read... this is definitley the book for you! I couldn't put this book down. This book reminds me of "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" but the female verison. She pulls it off so well. Super fun, super cute, and totally rude at times! A great read if you're feelin' stressed and need to take...

If you're into one-liners, unforgettable stories, and laughing out loud while you read... this is definitley the book for you! I couldn't put this book down. This book reminds me of "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" but the female verison. She pulls it off so well. Super fun, super cute, and totally rude at times! A great read if you're feelin' stressed and need to take your mind away for awhile. Enjoy!!!

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. I couldn't put it down. I too laughed out loud many times while reading, unable to tell others why I was laughing without sounding crazy. We've passed this book from friend to friend to share the laughs. Worth every penny. I'm just waiting for Chelsea's 2nd book to come out in paperback to buy it too!

Chelsea isn't shy and she loves men, lots of men. Oh, and top shelf vodka too (I'm not sure in which order) In MY HORIZONTAL LIFE Chelsea chronicles her escapades with a Vegas stripper, a well endowed little person, a cruise ship performer, her landlord, her gynaecologist, a Washington politician with a coke habit, black men, Latino men, small penised men...you get the idea. She also tries to get `Dumb-Dumb' her virgin roommate some action and all hell breaks loose when she attends her sisters wedding with her gay friend Nathan.
I guess I expected this book to be clever and witty like the humour I've seen on Chelsea Lately or in her stand up comedy. Unfortunately its not. This book is just a mildly entertaining collection of immature stories wherein Chelsea proceeds to get as intoxicated as she can, insults everyone around her and then tries (sometimes unsuccessfully) to find a man who will have sex with her. If you leave your politically correctness at the door and enjoy stories about drunken one night stands then you might like this book. However this is not really a memoir and her lack of compassion is at times insulting. Sure, there are a couple of amusing quips within her tales but nothing that I would really call funny.
Sleazy, aimless and disappointing I kept waiting for this book to get better or for Chelsea to be in some way redeemed by the end and find a steady man. Needless to say I won't be reading her follow-up book anytime soon.

Everyone should buy a copy of this hilarious memoir. Whether it be for yourself or a stocking stuffer, there's bound to be a few people in the family who will enjoy this book. It's impossible not to laugh out loud during many of the chapters. Some definite highlights include the "nugget" chapter, the "Halloween party on Valentine's Day", and "High School reunion revenge" chapters...just to name a few. The witty comments exchanged between the characters are bound to have you in stitches. All chapters detail a relationship or a one-night stand, and believe me, it's a page-turner, impossible to put down. It's a good summer read, nothing to take seriously. It won't win any Nobel Prizes anytime soon, but that's why I loved it. I hope there's a follow-up to this memoir.

I usually love Chelsea Handler's comedy, but this book is just tasteless and trashy. She depicts herself as a very sleazy, promiscuous character, who will sleep with anyone and drink to the point of oblivion. Really bad attempt at humor, cliches, bad, bad, bad.

My Horizontal Life
I read the existing reviews for this book before I purchased it, and from what I read, I was expecting a hilarious, laugh-out-loud read. Unfortunately that is not what I got. Sure there are some interesting, raunchy stories of one-night stands and being ridiculously slutty, but not once did I even chuckle silently to myself. Let alone burst out laughing and finding the need to call people to share what I just read. I found myself waiting for the book to get better as I flipped through each chapter, but before I knew it I was at the end and fairly disappointed. Not one of my favorite memoirs and now I am left hesitant to purchase her next book, as I do not want to be let down again.

"My Horizontal Life" is a gut buster of a funny book about the one night stands and failed attempts to find appropriate one night stands by comedian Chelsea Handler. Very much in the tradition of the brilliant "My Fractured Life", but with even more detailed focus on sex, sex, and more sex. I couldn't stop laughing the whole way through the book. Also recommended: "My Fractured Life" and "The Starter Wife."

If you love cliches, if you want to read "he was so hot" and "needless to say, I slept with him." 1500 times with little else indicating motive or to add interest, then read this. Otherwise don't waste your time or money. Un-funny garbage. The only thing that stood out was how racist the family of the author appears to be, it is offensive. Judy Blume should insist on having any references to her removed, there is no comparison to her whatsoever.
