This book gives the reader an opportunity to see the classic Cinderella story in another light. Too many people focus on the sexuality of relationships rather than considering the emotions involved. This is wrong! Very very wrong! I know most people say that children will have to grow up with this being an issue in their lives, but so aren't guns and I don't see anybody buying their 7 year olds firearms.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK...and the editors, Mar 23 2004

(...) I understand that parents have a right to monitor what their child is reading (and I think its great that parents do that), but really this book could be an opportunity to talk to you children about Homosexuality (maybe not in those words exactly), and begin to prepare the for the world full of different people with a varity of lifestyles. Isn't that what this book is really about. Isn't that the purpose of childrens book to entertain, but also to teach them lessons, and ecourage conversations with their parents. Can we afford to be so narrow minded with our future generations?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!!!, April 10 2004

Ignore all the bad reviews and open your minds! This is a wonderful book and story. The authors and illustrators do a beautiful job of telling the story of Prince who cannot find his true love in the choices the Queen provides him. There is no corruption in this book. It is a tale of love and the prince in the story just happens to fall in love with another prince. I have read this to my 3 year old son and he enjoys the story. A very good read for all ages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Prince Charming, April 20 2004

This is a charming book that introduces children to the possibility that little kings can do whatever they please - and there's certainly no need to please Mother! Love rears its head in many unusual places, and it's about time an alternative gets some attention. Why does a prince always have to settle down with a princess? We always love it when a price falls for a peasant girl instead, so why not a peasant boy (or another prince)? I do have a complaint about certain critics who believe it is wrong to introduce these concepts to children, though: When two men fall in love and want to live happily ever after, why do you always assume they're gay??? This book has nothing to with sex, and everything to do with love. It's perfect for children, so get your minds out of the gutter!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Cute Little Story, Mar 29 2004

It's an interesting twist on the old "the prince must marry!" tale. The Queen insists that her son marries...he agrees though he's not big on princesses. One after another parades in front of him until Princess Madeline brings along her brother, Prince Lee. Love blooms and they live happily ever after.

There is little to worry about this book: it's about two people who meet and fall in love. The fact that they are both princes is irrelevant. The book doesn't say that this is right or wrong, just that it makes them both happy. The Queen just seems pleased that her son is happy ~ again she doesn't judge the situation.

Most of the kids I read this to never caught on to the political ramifications of same-sex marriage. They just enjoyed it. The multimedia artwork is a tad distracting, but the kids enjoyed seeing it.

Teachers may want to use this book as an introduction to multi-media art and follow it up with similiar crafts

Linda does such wonderful work with these characters. They are so vibrant and alive, and so tender and caring, no wonder so many people have fallen in love with these books.

Here's to hoping that Linda comes out with more books about these two Kings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple story, revolutionary subject, Mar 22 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: King and King (Hardcover)
This is the very simple story of a prince looking for a mate. Instead of a princess, he finds that his true love is another prince. It's as straightforward as that. The text is sweet, playful, and certainly age-appropriate. The illustrations are charming and reflect the flights of fancies of the young Dutch women who created them. There is nothing political about this book; there is no agenda. It is not didactic. Like other revolutionary works of art, it states with clarity, without pretention or any hint of self-consciousness, a perspective that places tradition on its head.
The hatred and anger this little book inspires among some is certainly not a product of the book itself, but perhaps only reflects what is already in these readers' hearts.
[...]If so, it may reanimate the debate about what they are protecting the children of this school against: a simple story that takes into consideration the not-so-simple ways of the human experience.
