5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!!!!!!!
Love lessons tells the story of Trevor who is a music video director and Corey who is his son's(Miquel)fifth grade teacher.

Her love and compassion for his son causes him to look at her as more than a teacher.

The way the relationship between the two develops is so phenomenal! They were definitely on the same level and were
surely meant to be together.

This story was very good in the beginning but it started to get tiresome in the end. I am glad that Trevor owned up to his responsibiliites to his son. I really love the fact that Trevor and Corey finally got together.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Enjoy This Book, Jun 17 2004

I really didn't enjoy this book. The only things I really liked about this book were the sexual chemistry between the characters and that the little boy was adorable. With that exception, I found the story and the relationship lacking. She also used what I believe was Jamaican dialect through too much of the book, too often, and it lost me. Using the dialect made it hard to follow, those parts could have been key in drawing me into the book, but it didn't. Lastly, Ms. Esdaile makes attempts to make the characters more "hip" by using slang, which she has done in other novels too, and it just didn't work for me. This book may work for some, but it just doesn't for me.
This was my second or third attempt at reading Ms. Esdaile and I finally gave her up after reading this book, which is a shame since she sets most of her books in Philadelphia and it's always nice to read stories set in towns I'm familiar with.

All the while, Trevor is dealing with the fact that he is fed up with being on the road and knows that he has to become a full time father to Miquel and father figure to his college student cousin and teenaged son and daughter of his sister, who has been Miquel's caretaker while he's been away working.

Although Trevor is almost forty years old, "Love Lessons" is still a coming of age story about a someone who matures and takes on the responsibility being a father, a lover and most of all, a man.

I loved this book!

This is the love story of Corey and Trevor. Corey is Trevor's son teacher. At first Corey thinks Trevor is a bad father, since he had been out of the child's life. I liked the part's where Trevor spent with his son and his nephrew, but I didn't care for Trevor and Corey's relationship, I felt that it didn't consist of anything but sleeping together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life Is About Learning Valuable Lessons!, April 13 2002

This review is from: Love Lessons (Mass Market Paperback)
Trevor Winston is a film-producer who has spent the last eight years of his professional life globetrotting around the world producing films/videos. In that same timespan, Trevor has married, had a child, divorced and had to deal with the death of his ex-wife and mother. While Trevor has been busy working and making big bucks so that he could provide financially for his young son, he has neglected to take care of his son's emotional needs. Because of his traveling due to his career, Trevor left the care of his son in the hands of his wife, mother and then his sister.

Currently, Trevor's sister, is busy raising two teenage kids and a college age cousin as well as Trevor's young and precocious 10 year old son, Miguel. Trevor knows that his older sister is a very responsible individual so he's surprised to hear that several notes sent home from his son's teacher have gone unanswered and now he must fly back to the states to deal with this "temporary setback."

Trevor is taken by surprise when he meets Miguel's teacher, Corey Hamilton. Corey is female, African American, young, attractive and hip. Unfortunately, while Corey might admire Trevor as a renowned filmmaker in the entertainment industry, she has nothing but contempt for him as a parent. She perceives him to be a neglectful, absentee father who's only concerned about money, status and fame. While Trevor takes offense to Corey's position, when he walks in on the chaos of his sister's household, he quickly realizes that he needs to take off time from jet-setting around the world in order to help his sister provide a male role model for his son and teenage nephew and prove to Corey that he's not the monster she made him out to be. To show that he's interested in his son's well-being...and to get to know Miguel's teacher better, Trevor decides to work on a school project which will require him to spend much time around Corey. Trevor and Corey both realize that they must set aside their differences in order to help Miguel and in doing so they find out that they actually like each other. But the path to love, marriage and the baby carriage will not be easy as twists and turns along the way threaten to destroy the budding relationship.

Love Lessons by Leslie Esdaile is entertaining and enlightening. Esdaile wows us with her trademark romance theme but she also teaches us lessons about love. The underlying theme in Love Lessons is "about finding balance, learning to balance one's career aspirations with a family, responsibility with desire, and struggle with surrender." It's about who your teachers are and what you are teaching others. Esdaile leaves us with much to ponder long after the story is finished. If you're looking for a romance novel with a social message then look no further than Love Lessons by Leslie Esdaile.

Love Lessons reminds us about the importance of "the little things" that can make (or break) a relationship while giving us a warm and loving story. The characters may be recognizable to many of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Lesson Learned", Oct 25 2001
This review is from: Love Lessons (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. Trevor Winston an independent film maker that works mostly with music artist on their videos is a man of deep conviction. Corey Hamilton is a teacher passionate about the welfare of her students. Trevor has been an absent father to his son because of his work, he has left the raising of Miquel for his parents before their death and afterwards to his sister. However, a change is about to come. Trevor has been summoned after a series of notes that have gone unanswered by his sister from Miquel's teacher. Corey is intrigued and angered by Trevor's appearance at school to check on his son, she verbally assaults him about his lack of parenting then sends him away to lick his wounds. Trevor has never felt so dehumanized yet captivated by a woman, he comes up with a plan to make amends for the callousness of his responsiblity to his son.

Corey and Trevor are drawn to one another and will not play games about that attraction, Corey is the only woman that has made Trevor want to truly settle down and reevaluate his globetrotting lifestyle. Now, with his family and the project that has him involved with Corey's class to produce their own documentary, Trevor is finally feeling as if he has come home.

I loved the sensual primal visions Ms Esdaile used describing Trevor's pursuit for the woman of his heart. The story touched on so many levels, speaking to teenagers feeling pressured by society as well as peers to fit in, single parents trying to set an example for their children while struggling to maintain a shred of life solely their own and on being a good neighbor for those around us. The secondary characters were an integral part of this book, Scott, Miquel, Janelle, Samantha, Trevor's sister Gretchen, even Miss Cleo who sees all and knows just as much. This book is a definite lesson on love at all levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Lesson, Oct 23 2001
This review is from: Love Lessons (Mass Market Paperback)
This book touched me. I could identify with how we let so much get to be more important than what should be. Corey was dedicate to the children she taught so she was real angry when Miquel's dad seemed to ignore her many letters. Corey knew Trevor was big time in the music video world but she was not impressed. Trevor wanted a change in his life for good and Corey helped to provide him and his son a change. I liked this book
