This review is from: Farmhouses: Stylish Decorating Ideas for the Classic American Home (Paperback)
I bought this book to give me some ideas for renovating and decorating an old house. It has been some help in that regard. Each chapter is devoted to one particular old home with five or six pages of interior pictures, including kitchens and bathrooms, and each chapter represents a variation of farmhouse decorating, although, despite the differences of each, the general impression is of comfortable, liveable interiors. Many of the houses contain a combination of antiques and reproductions with more modern furnishings, but there are a few (my favorites!) which aim to recreate the original interiors with almost museum-like accuracy. However, the majority are of beautiful, approachable family homes. I do recall seeing several of these pictures in earlier Country Living issues, which felt like a bit of a cheat. Still, the book is reasonably priced, with a varied selection of styles, and is likely to give someone, like myself, a sense of the decorating possibilites available to the owner of a quirky old house as well as capturing the pleasure of being able to peek inside someone else's well-appointed home.
